Hello Kris71,

It can most definitely take anywhere from a few weeks to several weeks or even months.  Depending on how much hCG you have left in your body (the pregnancy hormone called Human chorionic gonadotropin) your ovulation will not occur before those levels diminish to zero or close to.  I had my D&C 7th June and I am just having what I would consider the strangest period which started this past Saturday and has stopped as many times as it started to today.  So, just like after a pregnancy, postpartum your body has several hormones that need to normalize, and until that happens you wont ovulate which is necessary before you have your menstrual cycle.
I know how anxious you must be for that to happen, as I definitely was, but I just wanted to let you know it is definitely different for each and every woman.
So no matter what anyone else writes, (though it is good to see the differences in everyone) your body will be just as different.  If you would like to be able to predict when your period might happen, and if you know that your hCG has reached zero, my suggestion to you would be to purchase an Ovulation Predictor Kit.  (I did this.)  It gives you a window to know that you will ovulate within 12-36 hours, and from then if you know your cycle and if not too much out of whack, you will have your period 14 days (if you have a regular 28 day cycle) later.  However as I mentioned, keep in mind because your body is recovering, it may not happen that way.  It is just one way to be able to maybe predict when it might happen if you are wondering.  Otherwise, there really is now way to know for sure when your body will be ready.

I hope that if you are anticipating the arrival of your cycle, it happens soon.

In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.
Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.

Sincerely,
