Pregnancy after Endometrial Ablation

I am looking for more info on pregnancy after an endometrial ablation.  I had an ablation in May 2002.  January 2003 I was not feeling well and went to the family doctor.  She thought it may be an ectopic pregnancy since I was told I was sterile.  I had an ultrasound to discover it was an interuterine pregnancy and I was about 9 weeks.  I am now 17 weeks and for the past month trying to decide to terminate or continue.  I am having a very hard time finding any info on any one with this happening to them and the risks to me or my unborn child.  I have seen several doctors and none of them have ever heard of this happening and 2 have suggested termination.  I have an appointment with a high risk specialist on Thursday (02/27/03).  Please tell me where I can find more info or who to contact.  Thanks.

Mel, I can so relate to the shock you are feeling.  I'm sure some will think negative, but I can only be honest with you about me.  I will give you a little background so you can understand my shock....my boys are 18,14, and 12 and I am single.  My youngest came after my husband had the big "V", so he was a shock to say the least!!  With my boys getting older,  I was looking forward to having "me time" with my kids grown, I could travel, and do all the things I missed as a younger mom.  I didn't even have the longing to hold an infant, miss the baby phase or think baby items are even cute, like most women.  I was dating a guy, (who I now call the sperm donor) as he has left the picture, when I found out I was expecting at only 4 weeks along!!!  I believe I spent the first six weeks after finding out in shock, fear, crying and in chaos mode.  I don't believe I started settling into the idea of being a mom again until I heard her heartbeat, had the loving support of my boys (who didn't like the adoption) and the bigget peace from God that He had picked me for this little miracle.  My faith has given me the strength, to battle the stress of this pregnancy alone.  I would always tell myself on those bad days, that God knew I would face this in my life, each child is a true miracle and I have been given a miracle beyond the normal with only 1 in 40,000 women conceiving after the ablation.  When I started looking at names and came across Jada with the Hebrew meaning "God Knew" it was just a given that this little miracle would have the name Jada!!  I started to buy the bigger items first, back in November, I used the Babies R Us gift registry check list for ideas.  Since I started SO early, I got a lot of items on clearance, and close out so I have saved a lot of money that way too.  All things will come back to you, as you start thinking on what you really used in the past.  Can't wait to hear what the Dr. says on Monday!!!  Hope my story gives you some encouragement.....

My other children are 12 and 13, so finding out I was pregnant was a big shock to me as well. I was 6 weeks along when I discovered I was but you just found out. It may take some time to get used to the idea. I live in a 1200 square foot house with one bathroom and had given away ALL my baby stuff years ago. I had two showers and got some of the big baby stuff used from my brother in laws family who were three weeks away from sending all their baby stuff up north to my husbands aunts resale shop. But fear not garage sale season looms! I also bought some clothes and things at resale shops. Also every relative and friend we ever had came out of the woodwork and sent gifts for the baby, 6 weeks later I am stilll getting stuff. Sign up for the free baby magazines and read them, it will all come back to you.
Hope you get the information you need on Monday and have an uneventful pregnancy..

Update--my baby is 6 weeks old now..Getting big as he is over 10 pounds already..I am having a CT scan with contrast soon to see if my left kidney is there and/or functioning. When I had my c section it was discovered I had no left ovary, and since the ovaries and kidneys develop at the same time and from the same tissue my doctor wants to make sure I have one  and if I do that it works. I am anxious to find out as this may effect my health as I get older..I went for my 6 week postpartum appointment yesterday and my doctor is training an NP and she could not wait to meet me, but I could tell from our convo that she thinks that my getting pregnant was my fault because I should have known I could still get pregnant..I'm kinda whatever about this belief of hers but maybe the tide is turning and doctors are realizing this can happen and maybe it happens a bit more than we or they think.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.  I have a Dr's appointment set up for Monday to find out where we stand right now.  By my calculations I am quite sure that I'm 12 weeks or so along.  DH thinks I'm wrong and he believes I'm farther than that so I guess we will have to wait for Monday to have any idea about that as well.  Not only have I had the ablation but I've also had 2 second semester miscarriages before, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to walk on eggshells for the next 5-6 months regardless.  We're still having a difficult time wrapping our heads around the whole idea of another pregnancy / baby, but given that it's happened, we do both want everything to be okay and a healthy baby to come from it.  My husband who was freaking out completely, did at least settle down enough to joke about different baby names and such.  For those of you who were finished having children, how long did it take you to come back around to the idea of more, once you found out?  Last week I felt like an old pro at parenthood and this week, the idea of re-buying all the things a baby needs has me feeling completely overwhelmed and clueless.

I am not sure if this is the right forum, this one is for support for women who have become pregnant after having an ablation...
As for your question I know many years ago my sister tried many myths to get a girl, needless to say they failed, she ended up with 3 more boys. She Accidentally got pregnant for her 5th child and it was a girl. Good luck, I hope you get what you want
