False Positive Anyone ever experienced , is it possible?

Ok here goes. Had M/C and D&C on Sept 18, 2006.Second D&C for retained product on Oct 20.  I had what I believe to be AF start Nov 14/06 and end Nov 18/06. Was expecting AF Dec 12 and still have not got it! Hpt done Dec12 ( First Reponse)could see faint line. Hpt done Dec 13 same brand very faint line, Dec 14 took a generic brand ( Inverness ) fain verticle line on the + symbol! Decided it was too difficult to determine with the lines being so faint so I took a Fact Plus digital teat and it came out negative!!!! I called and both Inverness and the fact plus are to pick up at 50??? 1 was pos(I think) and the other negative!  Anyone know why?  Or what the best test to use would be?Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

yes it has happened to me as well fact plus are NOT very good home prego test i took 3 of them and kept getting a negative results and this was 4,3, and 2 days before my missed period cause i know my body i knew i was pego.  so on the 1 day before my missed period i used first response test and it came out positive and then i took 2 more first response test and they came out positive then i used the last fact plus test and got another negative result so i went to the doctor and confirmed that i was truley prego so fact plus are the worse test to take when you want to know for sure before you go to the doctor to confirm pregnacy

Ok now I am scared! Went yesterday to get hcg levels done dr called me in for results today!  Said levels are only 14!!! She does not know what is going on we have no other numbers to comapre it to in order to know if they went down however I assume they did as I was testing positive on hpt since 7 days ago!!! She said could be etopic or may be a m/c? She is off on holidays and wants me to go sit in er and have them do a scan in case of etopic!!

CONGRATULATIONS! Before I saw your follow-up, I was going to tell you that these brands are pretty reliable from what I have read. I got three false positives with one brand in October (Confirm Clearly) and then read reviews online to see that two men, a neutered dog, and tap water all tested positive with the same brand. I contacted the company and got my money back (for the test stick and refill kits I purchased AND tax!).

I am so excited that you got your positive. Better to have it verified at the doctor than to get another BFP at home and remain unsure. I am so excited for you!

Hi! I've noticed that the ones I've taken that are made by Inverness I will get a faint blue line everytime. It comes up w/in the time limit & everything.  I will get the line on those, but nothing on FRER or any other. It sounds like you are pregnant though since you're getting pos on different brands! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks.  I forgot to mention that my blood hcg was checked 3 weeks after the 2nd d&C and was<2. Also hpt were coming back negative at this time also.

Although just to make a comment, it does take a while for the hcg from the miscarraige to leave your body it could be picking up the faint "leftovers". Consumer reports suggests using a test that detects at higher levels for women who have experienced this recently, in which case it recommends Fact Plus which detects hcg at about 100. And in the middle is the Clear Blue Easy at 50.

I find the best tests are first response. Consumer reports did a test of some of the most common pg tests and it ranked tops, with the ability to "consistently detect hcg at 12.5". That is accuracy you can count on. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/family/pregnancy-tests/index.html
