THIRD IVF BUT DUBIOUS

Hello everyone, feel very deflated this morning, had full consultation about having a third ivf and asked openly my consultants view and outlook on us going ahead, he was honest and said his personal opinion was against it, looking at my previous 2 attempts first m/c, second neg, i only produced 5-6 eggs each time and only 3 fertilized last time, my age is against us but he was also adamant that the decision is ours and he will be behind us if we go ahead, he said he didnt want me to go away with if's and buts and to think back in a couple of years and think did i do everything i could.  My husband knows how much I want to have this one last shot and mr curtis our consultant said if i can get 3 eggs fertilized he will put back all 3. So yes we will be trying for one last time and I need to get back to positive mode now , the odds are against us, have any of you been told chances very low due to age and egg quality and got pregnant.we start in 2 weeks time meds and will give my all, rest, protein eating, vitamins, any other advice ? I'm only 41 but now feel 60! i cant throw the towel in until i've done this for time , best wishes to you all, melissaxxx

Hello. I just wanted to share my experience. I did my first IVF at 40 and due to poor embryo quality failed. I did the 2nd IVF with a slightly different protocal (no Lupron) and had 11 eggs retrieved with 10 fertilizing. The ART center monitored them and we were able to transfer on the 5th day. We transferred 5 in total with 2 being blasts. My RE was very aggressive because I told her this was my last try. I am now 6 1/2 months pregnant with fraternal twins. I think your RE should definitely be more aggressive and make sure the ART center your DR uses is extremely competent. I wish you much luck and blessings.

I'm sorry your facing all of these obsticles.  This whole process is just so dang frusterating.  It seems as if nothing is easy.  I hope this is successful for you!  I know how badly you want it!  I am glad to see that your RE is willing to but 3 back in!  That's great news!
Have you thought about using donor eggs?  I don't know how expensive that is where you live, or how accesible...but thought it might be a thought?

Good Luck Melissa!  I am praying this works for you!!!  Fingers and Toes Crossed!!!!

Hi.  I think you are saying this is your last attempt at IVF?  If so, why not go ahead?  A friend of mine went through 4 or 5 rounds 15 years ago.  She only had 3 embryos to transfer when she struck gold with her son!  She was telling me that her doctor counseled her to go ahead, telling her about the baby that resulted from the transfer of a single embryo.  And another friend of mine decided up front that she would not want multiples and would not terminate, so after several failed cycles, she transfered one.  Her daughter is 3 months old.  All of these women were over 40.

Good luck!

Thank you both for your comments, as far as donor eggs go my husband doesnt want to go down this road, it is expensive and again no guarantees, we will go for this last attempt and really hope and pray we beat the odds and get our positive which goes on to become a healthy baby.I'm worried I won't produce many follies again but hopefully will get 4-6 and at least 3 will fertilise.I have heard many stories of women over 40 having success but again I suppose alot rests on the individual and their ovary reserve, mine not being that good. At least I produce eggs, my consultant said some women over 40 and under 40 don't produce eggs and the cycles have to be abandoned. Will update when treatment begins, i've been told to eat alot of protein, so thats what i'll do, chicken tonight! best wishes and thanks to you melissaxx

Good Luck on your cycle, Baby Dust to you!! I am 41 in 2 weeks and got a neg on my 1st cycle. It is interesting that I read yours because I was crying all morning debating if I should do a second round. My Dr suggests Single Embryo Transfer program but I'm not sure what to do. I too feel deflated but maybe we should dust our selves off and be positive!!!! Keep me posted and prayer and love being sent your way!

Hello, thats interesting your dr suggesting "single transfer program"-is that just what it suggests , just puting 1 embryo back, my dr is very for me putting 3 back if we can get 3, he says the risk for multiple birth in my age group is very low and i have a better chance of 1 sticking if i can get and put back the maximum  allowed for over 40's.
I am still very low as like I said my dr advised against trying for a third time due to the results of my two preveious attemps, but he will treat me and told me to eat plenty of protein. Its a lot of money especially as our ivf charges go up in october by another £500, I know my husband would like to stop but he also knows this attempt is really for me to say i've given all i could and done everything i could before i throw towel in, the odds are against us but something is making me want to do it this last time.best wishes to you aswell in what you decide, like my dr said he doesnt want me to have regrets in 2-3 yrs time when i'm thinking why didnt i give it my last shot. take care lots love melissaxx

Is there only 1 clinic in your area?  Can your research and see which doctor's have the best success for your age group?  I don't know if it's like it is here... I travel 1 1/2 hrs one way to my RE because the success rates there are so much better then where I live.  It's just a thought.  I just want you to have the best chance possible!!!!  I do think this can work for you as it did on your first try! : )   I do believe a good RE and a Great lab make a difference!
Please keep us updated : )

We are all hoping this is your time my friend!!

Thank you for your encouraging comment, i am so hoping we get 3 to put back, our dr's only do 2 and 3 day transfer and my last embryo's were 6 cell on the 3 day transfer and a 3 cell on the 2 day transfer, miscarried 1st ivf, second just didnt stick and i bled from day 11 of 2ww. any idea why some people bleed and for others the embryo just "vanishes", no bleeding gets absorbed into the body when we get a negative result.
so pleased for you and 15 weeks is great, nearly at the 20 week stage when things are considered really safe.  can i ask you did you bleed atall? its just i will be so scared when they're in me again that i'l be looking for blood, its horrible but i know alot of women who do ivf don't bleed. my best wishes lots love melissaxx

Hi Melissa   yes he had suggested Single Embryo then we spoke at great length all my options and financially its all an issue. I just don't know what path should be taken. My first cycle was micro (less stimulation and less meds) It actually went great he put back 2 Grade A 5 day embryos and then I really don't know what happened the next thing I know I got a neg pregnancy test. My heart sunk. I just don't know what road to take and yesterday and today the sadness and uncertainty is overwhelming. And by the way still no bleeding yet! they just vanished. I think 3 is great and keep up that postive feeling I need to pull it together and do just that!
