Update on ER done on 3/29

I had the ER completed on Saturday and followed up with the RE this morning and he stated that 10 out of 10 of the eggs fertilized. He stated to call him on Wednesday morning to see how well they have done up to that point. He stated we wanted 8 cells for blast.

I am a little confused as I had the ER on Saturday. I thought you either had a 3 day transfer or a 5 day transfer.
Do I count Saturday or start on Sunday? If I start on Sunday, that means Wednesday will be day four and Thursday will be the fifth day, right?

Congrats!!!  They probably did not mention the rest of the embryos because they stalled (stopped developing) which is not to alarm you.  About 90% of 2PN embryos will cleave (start to divide) but only about 50% will make it to day 5, so it sounds like you're off to a good start.  There is nothing really better or worst about a day 3 versus day 5, but if you have 5 8 cells then they will probably wait so they can be more selective.  GL!!!

Update Ladies:

DH just phoned the RE and he stated 5 of the embryos are 8 cell and one of them is a 6 cell. He did not mention the others to him (unsure why).

My assumption is that they will transfer on Thursday.

Where should they be for blast? Is blast better than a three day transfer?

I hope all of you are doing well. Please keep me abreast of your status. Wishing you all well and keeping you in my prayers.

SSBD your way!!!!

Hey there, the day of retrieval is day 0.  So day 5 would be on Thursday.  If you are hoping for blast then there isn't really a cell number.  It is 8 cells on day 3, and then by day 5 the cells have fused and you can't really count them.  It's a lot to remember I am sure.  Good luck to you!

Thank you ladies. That does make sense. I will phone on Wednesday and the ET will more than likely take place on Thursday. Please, please, please keep me in your prayers. I want all eggs to mature and reach the required cell count for blast on Thursday. Then from there, SSBD my way :)

Maybe that's why he wants you to call on Wednesday, and if everything looks good, have you come in for the transfer on Thursday. Best of luck!!!

I think you count Saturday as day '1'.  I know when we were going through this, we counted the day of retrieval as day 1 and also transferred on day '5'.  Are they going to update you on the progress of the embryos?  Btw, congratulations - that's great that all of the eggs fertilized!
