Unruputured Follies

How many of you have had problems with follicles not rupturing and releasing the egg??   Last month I had one follie and it didnt' rupture even with an ovidrel shot... this month I had two follies ( i was so excited!) and Thank goodness one is gone ( had my post- O ultrasound this morning )   but the other one is now 34mm! yikes!!!! I guess thats how people develop cysts while on fertility meds, its just follies not rupturing and then turning into cysts.. but Just curious how many of yall have experienced this.. I used Novarel this month instead of ovidrel.. Any ideas on why this happens especially two months in a row! I'm kinda worried about it!  Thanks for any help or suggestions! :  )

I get cysts pretty regular. They normally resolved themselves at the start of a new cycle. Back in November I got one that stayed until recently and really messed up my cycle. It gave false pos opks and was quite painful. Fortunately, it went away b4 it got too big and needed aspiration.

I know, I am wondering if this is happening to me.  The first month I had 2 follies, last cycle I had four.....I will know tomorrow morning how many I have this month.  I am going to BEG for a test post O to see if they ruptured.  When it DOES rupture, are you certain an egg was released?  Or can it rupture and still not release an egg?

Hi there, I'm soooo confused after reading your posts:( I'm supposed to go in for my IUI procedure tomorrow and I had my trigger shot (HCG)  last night. I took an ovulation test stick this morning and it showed a surge, i.e the test line turned dark. Since it's going to be more than 36 hours after my shot , will the IUI procedure be too late? Also, how can I be sure that the follicles released the egg? I'm soo worried that even if the follicles did rupture already, by the time they do an IUI tomorrow, the eggs would have been past their fertilization period...

Also, my RE never told us if we were supposed to BD or not... so I'm just worried sick that I've missed the window ! gosh..... how stressed I am:((

Thank yall so much for your replies!!!   Yea my follie didn't rupture last month after the ovidrel trigger (found an unruptured 28mm follie 24 hours after IUI) but thank goodness it had resolved by the time i went in for my US at the new cycle.. this month 34 mm is kinda big! yikes, hoefully it will go away!!

Heather:  I think that if the follie ruptures and hopefully there was a genetically normal egg in there that it is released most of the time, however from what my RE told me is that sometimes the fimbrea (sp? - the little fingertips at the end of your fallopian tubes) might not grab onto the egg and bring it through the tube down to the uterus (most common cause would be endo or some sort of distorting of the fimbrae. I'm hoping since it ruptured it went where it was supposed to go! gosh! it is such a detailed process its amazing it ever happens naturally!!

Julie1615:   I had my IUI on friday and my ultrasound post-O this morning.. I was shocked when my RE wanted to do an ultrasound the day after my IUI to check my follies (last cycle it was my first medicated and first IUI) I thought well i'm sure if i had a trigger of course it would release! ha.. apparently it happens every once in a while thats what can lead to cysts being on fertility meds... You can check a post O progesterno (i think 7dpo) but the only for sure way to check would be ultrasound- My RE likes to do it 24 hours after IUI, which is about 56 hours after trigger or so.. I have been so worried that the trigger would make my follies rupture early and we would miss the window too, but research is pretty solid saying 36 hour mark is the most successful....and being younger your egg survives longer once released typically. So dont' worry you shouldn't miss your window! (but i'm such a worrier too its just impossible not to worry i know! - i literally did jumping jacks before i left for my IUI to make sure that those things were releasing haha!)   your trigger will give you a false positive OPK... (so no worries there)  Most of the time you dont' BD after your trigger since dh needs to abstain for 2 days prior to giving his sample... they say between 2-5 days of abstaining is the best!!! I just did my first round of IUI and was BFN.  I went to start my second cycle of IUI (AF arrived and everything seemed normal) and I was told I have "multiple cysts" on both ovaries so can't do anything this cycle.  :(  I had 6 mature follies prior to the HCG shot.

I was not monitored after my HCG trigger shot so after reading your notes I think I am going to request that they do monitor me next cycle.  I would really like to know how many eggs were released.  I'm just hoping all the cysts go away on their own...and fast.

I'm sorry to hear that! This whole process is so frustrating, and then to have to have  "time out month" really sucks!   I was shocked that my RE did the post- O ultrasounds, but now i'm so glad he does.. granted talk about anxiety and so nervous when i go in and they tell me what they find! We always get bad news on ultrasounds.. so I am glad at least one follie made it!!! WOW six is a lot!   Thats great!!! I wish i had more like that, that way hoepfuly more of them would release and i would have more of a chance!!! GOOD LUCK!!! and try to enjoy your time off this month with some wine and coffee!

How would you know if it didn't rupture. Is he u/s after the IUI or something? Just curious so I can bug my RE further.

Yup, he does post-ovulation ultrasounds.. I've never heard of anyone doing this, but i'm glad he did!!

hi there, thanks soo much for the information and encouragement.. I feel much more relieved now:) I just returned from my IUI and I was totally freaked out about how quickly the procedure got over! My RE didn't even ask me to lie down for 10 minutes after the transfer of sample!!! Well anyway, I'm now officially in the 2WW!! Gosh what a looooong two weeks it's gonna be. Bny807... I'm hanging in there with you... so sending you countless SSBD too..

Very jealous that your RE is thorough and attentive. Please send some of that over to my RE who I never see. hehehe. The only way I 'knew' it ruptured is because I felt it. Yep, felt the egg pushing. It was weird/painful. But hey, I'll take it. I think though for round 3 I'll ask for a follow up u/s.
