What would you do?

Hi all-

My husband and I have been TTC #1 for over a year now. All tests have come back normal. I am ovulating and everything seems normal except for a little LP spotting.

I guess my question is...what would you do? Would you wait a little longer (I am 31, husband is 36), or try the herbal and acupuncture approach, or go straight to clomid or other fertility treatments now?

If I have not conceived yet, does that mean that I will most likely never conceive on my own?

TY! Lauren

Thanks. We've had all the testing and are seeing an RE. I'm just not sure whether to wait it out and see if it will happen naturally, or try clomid as has been suggesting by my doctors. GL to you!

well, i guess i can related to you. in my case, we were ttc for the past 6months, n' I did most of the exams everything came as normal, i do ovl reg have a reg cycle. then we did a semen analysis on him, n' found out that his counts are low. well, if i were you, i would go to do a semen analysis on husb, to see what's comes up. then would see a fertility dr. because you mentioned its a year of trying. !!

Thank you, Heather!

DH has had a SA with normal results, I had day 3 labs, 7 dpo labs, and an ultra sound that all came back normal. I need to get a HSG (but not until June as we are living abroad with no fertility coverage, but will be Stateside this Summer), and I would like to get more progesterone labs done this month while I'm home on a visit. The HSG has to wait because I'll be home post ovulation.

My 7 dpo progesterone level was 15.8 which I understand to be a strong ovulation, right? I chart and that shows a decent thermal shift with ovulation. Maybe we are just on the bad luck side so far? Do you think if we haven't conceived yet, it's time to go forward with anything? My LP is always at least 12 days, but usually 14.

I can't decide if we should give it a few more months of trying, or if we should go ahead with clomid or something like that. I have an appointment with an RE next week when I'm home in Philly.

Thanks for your help! : )

You don't necessarily have to go straight to injections, but it might be a good idea to set up an appointment with an RE for a consultation. There might be other tests they can do, and they will probably do a monitored cycle where they do ultrasounds to check for follicle growth and ovulation the first month (unless you've already had this done). If you prefer, you could try an unmedicated IUI after that, or try clomid or femara (both just pills). They do increase your chances of multiples, but not by much.

Unfortunately, unexplained infertility is pretty common around here. So many of us are dealing with tests that are normal, yet not being able to conceive. It makes it hard when you don't know what to "correct."

So what tests have you had done? Spotting in the luteal phase could indicate low progesterone, which could be related to your ovulation (weak ovulation) or you may have a luteal phase defect if it's less than 10 days. And has your DH had a semen analysis?

I am hesitant to use any fertility drugs because of the increased chance for multiples. I thought injections majorly increased the chance, right? Also, is that too extreme for my age and considering I am ovulating and have no known issues? I guess that's what I am trying to figure out. What is too extreme, but what will get me prego! Thanks for your reply!
