Like candie, I have just started Femara (also known as letrozole), and the side effects are very minimal and it is not thinning my uterine lining. I took Clomid 50mg for 2 cycles, and 100 mg for 1 cycle, and ovulated each time but with just one follicle. (Did one IUI on third cycle--BFN) My RE also started me on Follistim injectables, 75 IUI cd5-9. I have my first u/s tomorrow, so hopefully I will have more than one follie ready to go for my IUI.

I have a mild form of PCOS, and had an HSG test to be certain my tubes are not blocked. Have you had an HSG, and your husband's sperm analyzed to be certain there are no problems there?

Good luck, and I hoped some of this helped.

You might want to ask them to increase your clomid dosage or length you are taking it for.  We have been seeing a fertility specialist off and on for about 5 years, I have been on several rounds of clomid both at 50mg and 100mg for 5 days.  We tried "naturally" on the clomid many times with no luck.  I have an 8 year old that was conceived "naturally" taking 50mg of clomid for 5 days.  We recently went back after a break and they changed my dosage to 100mg for 10 days instead of 5 days.  It must have made a difference, we had an IUI in early Jan and I am about 6 weeks pregnant.   If you are not getting pregnant the natural way, you might want to try an IUI.  We kept putting it off, but once we did it, it really wasn't too bad.

I have PCOS and my period is super irregular and I ovulate very late in my cycle.  With the 10 days of clomid, I ovulated day 15 (instead of day 19 or 20).

It is not unusual for clomid not to work the first cycle, I think they have you try at least 3 or 6 before they start talking about other medications or procedures.  So as much as it sucks, try to be patient.

Good Luck!

I took clomid for 1 cycle last month and it didn't work, I'm not pregnant but I didn't even get my period so I can't even start another cycle until I get back to the doctor to have another period induced by provera!  So frustrating.  What is your situation, do you not ovulate on your own either?  How many cycles of clomid did you try?

I'm not sure what your situation is or if you have had any tests, etc, but I can share my experience.  I was put on Clomid back in September after trying for about 1 1/2 years with no luck.  Our tests all came back good, but I wasn't getting positive OPK's, so it appeared I wasn't ovulating, or at least not good quality eggs.  I tried it for 4 months and was getting positive OPK's, but my doctor felt if it hadn't worked by then, it wasn't going to.  She then suggested a different drug called Femara (Letrozole).  Like Clomid, it also tricks your body into producing more estrogen to induce ovulation, but in a different way.  There are a lot of good posts on here that give more detailed info on it.  The one thing that scares everyone at first is the published risk of birth defects, but it is only if you take it while already pregnant.  From what I've read, and experienced, it has a lot less side effects than Clomid and doesn't negatively affect your CM and uterine lining like Clomid does.  My doctor also mentioned that if Femara is working, but we don't get pregnant, we can then try IUI along with it.  I think that's the standard protocol.  After that, I think it depends on your situation.  Maybe someone else can offer some insight into the next steps.  At the moment, we're just hoping that the drug works for us and we can conceive naturally.  It's way too scary, and heartbreaking, for us to think about what's going to happen if it doesn't work!  Anyway, best of luck to you and I hope your baby dreams come true!!
