When they inject the sperm into the egg (icsi) that ensures that sperm and egg have meet.
We had a low sperm count so ICSI was the best chance for us. One thing to remember with ISCI, is they may not always be grabbing the very best sperm possible-ie faster strongest swimmer- they move to quick sometimes, but they do weed out the bad ones.
the clinic wher I'm going to reccomends asisted hatching for women over 40 as it can help with the egg attaching to the uterus, there is a small risk of damage to the egg when the proceedure is being done, they also reccomend it when the outer layer (zona I think its called) is thick in other cases. The sperm injection depending on each clinic can be included in the cost or maybe extr and that is usually done when there is some problem with the sperm although if you choose to have it done they will do it as well :)
