blood type matters

Just wondering if any of you had your blood type checked.  I am o negative with negative type antibodies which means I will definitely need rhogam so my body doesn't go against the baby.  Have any of you discussed this with your doc. yet?  It is really important to know in case you haven't yet.  I am pretty bummed about this.  My mom lost her baby 2 days after birth do to a disformed heart.  This was from the neg. blood type and neg. antibody type.  Rhogam was not given during pregnancy back then.  

Does anyone know how this works?  When do I have to get these shots?

The  Rh factor does not in any way cause malformed fetal hearts.

I just spoke to the nurse.  She explained to me that RH is a factor in everyone's blood.  You either have RH negative or RH positive.  I am type O & negative RH  (O neg.)  Then she said we all have antibodies that are also pos. or neg.  My antibodies are neg. as well and I will definitley need rhogam.  She said it is around 20 weeks she thinks... she has to get back to me.  She also said with neg./ neg. it doesn't matter what my DH is and I will have to have the shot.  Neg. antibodies will fight whatever is foreign.  I wish something would go smoothly.....then again, what's one more shot????

hi there, I am AB- and I got rhogam at 28 weeks and again 3 days after birth.. way back when, there were a ton of problems with 2nd children whose parents were RH negative. that is no longer an issue, just let your doctor know, I told my RE immediatly, in case I ever forgot and he told me that do blood type anyway...

i am RH-negative and i haven't discussed it with my doctor. my mom is the same blood type and she told me that it depends on the baby's blood type. for me she didnt have to take the meds, but for my brother she did. hes positive. it's a good question. ill ask when i go in tomorrow. thank you.

My sister has the rh neg factor and had to get the shots with all 3 of her babies. I'll ask her in the am when she got them. She told me and I want to say it was around 6mos, but I could be very wrong. It was a long time ago I asked and I am O+ so my brain didn't store the info, lol.
