caffeine and fertility

Hi. My husband and I of three years are trying to conceive our first child. I am a healthy 27 year old at a good weight and good diet. The only bad thing is I'm pretty hooked on caffeine. I don't drink coffee, but I do drink one Sugar Free Rockstar energy drink per day, which has 160 mg of caffeine. Since TTC, Ive cut down it down so that this one energy drink is the only caffeine drink I have each day (stopped drinking caffeinated sodas on the side and replacing with water, juice, etc.) Ive read that caffeine can cause fertility problems, but Ive also heard that consuming 300 mg per day is the safe limit. Ive also read that this is a misconception. Any idea?

They do its great! only 10 calories, you don't get that "sugar high" that the regular one gives you, but hey thats ok! Less of a crash! Man all this talk is making me miss and crave caffine even more!!

Yea it took me probably till the 8th month to do some serious caffine changes, since I depended on it so much!   Of course I got mad when AF came after a month of no caffine and drank a ton of coffee during AF since i was frustrated! hehe ... Even though redbull isn't as strong as those other drinks, it only has 80mg of caffine... but has all those B vitamins, so if you like the taste (its an acquired taste, but man i love the taste now!! yum, wish they made caffine free red bull hehe!)  Then you could "downgrade" to redull eventually!! Good luck! I do miss my coffee and redbull every single day for sure!

yeah, who knows. ive def. cut my caffeine down since started TTC two months ago. i used to drink an energy drink and sodas throughout the day. i figured cutting it down to just my energy drink (again, 160 mg of caffeine) per day will keep me from going crazy and under the 300 mg limit. after i got AF a week ago, i was wondering "what is wrong with me! i know, the caffeine!"  so i thought id inquire about it. but honestly, we've only been trying for two months. i should probably practice some patience if i dont want to go insane =).

I have heard that caffeine can thin your lining...my RE said NONE when going through infertility stuff.  His thought is "Why risk it?"
Fortunately, I had cut caffeine out years ago----I cannot sleep if I have it within 24 hours!! Weird, I know.

I have also been a caffine addict for years!! I work wierd hours and its my saving grace!   I have read a lot of studies etc that do say it takes couples 3 times as long to concieve if they drink moderate caffine (not sure what moderate is).   So I have cut out the coffee, but will drink the occasional green tea and dr pepper!!  But mostly I think they are now saying its safe!  but WHO KNOWS the real answer!!! I figure I can at least stop the coffee!  GOOD LUCK!

I was ttc for 14 months, I drank 2 cups of coffee every morning and then I had a coke in the afternoons. It may have been a coincidence but the month I decided to try 100% before giving up, I quit caffeine and got pregnant my next cycle.

I've been told 300 mg is the safe limit as well, when you're pregnant.  I'm not sure what it is for fertility issues, but I'm assuming it would be no less than that.

Some doctors will say 150 mg, but research has shown that 300 mg a day has no adverse effects.  Of course, the best is to not drink any caffeine, but it's a myth that any at all will cause either fertility problems or birth defects or early labor.  All in moderation! :)
