second iui, what should the follicle sizes be?

Hi All,

My first iui failed  with af showing up 18 days after the hcg trigger. My follicle sizes were 17.5, 14.3, 13.7 a day before I got the trigger and iui was the next day . Now another Dr feels that it might have been early for trigger.

It will be a great help if you could share your experiences.

Each mature follicle should have an E2 level of between 100-300,, the higher the numbers the better. I was supposed to do IVF this past cycle and I did not respond well enough to warrant the retrieval, etc so RE converted it to IUI- I was on the Estrogen Priming protocol, which helps produce better eggs, and my e2 level was 600 with 2-3 follicles on CD 13, and I remained on FSH meds for another day, so I imagine my e2 went a bit higher. I had one follicle at 19mm and two other slightly smaller ones, but strangely, my e2 showed I had alteast two mature eggs. I was on a high dose of Gonal F, which works a little slower than HMG (Menopur) and I stimmed until day 14 with Lupron, Cetrotide and FSH, and then triggered Sat eve and had my IUI monday morning. I thought I had missed it as I had a TON of cervical mucus for about 2-3 days, lots of signs I was going to be ovulating, etc but nurse said she thought the timing was perfect. So, I am on the 2ww,, already have sore breasts and a tiny bit of cramping so I am hoping this IUI worked, but with my elevated FSH and age, I just dont know. I also just started progesterone lozenges and I was on Estrace as I was supposed to do IVF- my lining was at 9mm at my last u/s, my RE prefers atleast 9mm for the lining to be optimal. So each RE is different but I do think triggering you at 17.5 was a bit early. I think it is strange he did not check your e2 levels either- hmmm. Are you seeing an RE or a gyn? Maybe you should find another doctor?

I just did first IUI.. Was also on Menopur injectables until follies reached 2 at 20mms & 1 at 18mms.. They had me trigger with hcg a day later & then IUI a day after that. So that gave my follies 1 more day to grow before trigger.. & Follies grow on average 1-2mms a day. So I think im looking pretty good here. They didnt wanna wait too much longer or give me anymore Injectables because they would be too matuyre & give me higher risk for triplets or more or OHSS.. Scary lol. So I go back this friday 3.30.12 for first post IUI appt to check levels and things. Wish me luck!

Oh & my dr told me they dont like to trigger unless follies are=
Either 1 at 20mms or 2 at 18mms.. atleast. Hope this helps sum1. =]

hey guys i had my first iui on aug. 1ft..and on cd29 and 12 dpiui and still no af and still no BFP...i hoping that if i wait till 2 weeks after iui which brings me to the 15ft i might get my BFP..but i got an u/s on cd 15 and i had a good mature follicle it measured 22mm and i got a trigger shot that day and i went back on the next day cd16 for the iui...but sometimes even dough our follicle mature it dosent mean that it releases the egg for sure..so we just have to keep trying..good luck everyone!!

Iam on my first IUI this month. I have just taken my trigger injection and have queried my folicile sizes @14 and 15. My nurse advised that some of us have sml folicle sizes and this is not  a problem? ........

The Nurse told me that they would like to see woman who are taking clomis follicles to measure 18 I had 3 one was 18, 15.5 and the other ? They said that those 2 were looking the best and hopefully they both release good chance for twins that way..... Good Luck to  all of Us and God Bless....

I know the estrogen should be anywhere from 150 to 600 per each mature follicle, I last cycle I had 4 follicles sizes from 18-22 and my estrogen was 489, not so good with 4 follicles and considering I was on gonal f injections 400. anyway............ I am going to IVF. possibly with donor eggs, not really sure yet, I have to go in to RE on the 15th of august to have a talk with him, I found that the RE was much more aggresive then regular OB/gyn, hope everything works out for you

Yes it was a medicated cycle with clomid 50mg. The follicle sizes were as of CD12.

They did not check my E2... what does this hormone tell?  The nurse said something about using an estrogen patch if the uterine lining is thin. Mine was 7.4, which she told me was okay.

I have had 6 IUI none of them worked. 17.5 is ok for a follicle but the rest are way to small . was this a medicated cycle for u?? also your estrogen needs to be up there rigth along with a mature follicle. did they check your E2 as well?
