HCG doubling, progesterone dropping?!?!

So I finally got the progesterone level from last weeks test.  I am already on supplements for having a somewhat low level.  My HCG more than doubled within 48hrs, but my progesterone went from 17.4 to 15.  What can cause this?  Some people say there is a normal fluctuation of this hormone, is this true...would it drop 2 points?  I hope I am not going to miscarry again!!!  So scared!!

That is what I am getting from reading different sites, that it isnt a huge indicator if things are good or bad.....but in the same breath it is vital for pregnancy.  I just started vaginal gel, Prochieve 8%, about 3 days ago.  The reason why they put me on it in the first place was I had a m/c in Nov and a heart beat was seen with decent HCG, but since I was seeing a different doc at that time she wouldnt test progesterone.  So my new doc is trying to proactive.  I think I might request one more blood test to make sure the levels are rising by taking this.  Thanks for your input...I will ask for a follow up because I am very anal and I just need to relax a bit. LOL!  The office is probably so sick of me!

Didnt your doctor tell you if this is normal??  I have never heard about a natural fluctuation, but I am sure it is possible. How are you taking your progesterone, is it orally, if so what brand.
Also, if you are tkaing it orally maybe you could ask to have vaginal suppositiories, I heard that they are more effective at raising levels....

Overall though it is great that your HCG's doubled!!!

I would call your doctor immediatly in the morning and make them see you, you need to know what is going on ASAP, even if it is normal it will make you feel better for him to say it right?  Anyway I will pray for you tonight, I am  sure you will be okay  : )

hello!  First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy.  I had some information I wanted to share with you about progesterone levels.  I asked my RE (reproductive endocronologist), who used to be a huge believer in checking progesterone, about checking my levels (due to recurring pregnancy loss) and he said that if I went to the lab and they drew blood every half hour for three hours they would most likely come up with a different number almost every time.  This is why my Dr.'s don't believe in checking progesterone levels- they feel it is not a good way to measure a pregnancy.  I hope this helps, good luck to you!
