home pregnancy test after ivf possibly correct?

I did egg retrieval on 6/10.  ovidrel(hcg)shot on 6/8.  blastocyst transfer on 6/15.  i know they tell you not to take a home test, but i couldn't help myself.  I thought maybe if i took one every couple of days, the results might be more accurate.  i took a test 6/18 was negative.  today 6/21  tested positive.  Is it even possible?

Yes, it is entirely possible.  However, just a word of caution.  The Ovidrel shot is hcg, which is what is measured by the HPT's.  So, it is also possible you could be receiving a positive result due to the Ovidrel shot, not due to pregnancy.  Wishing you the best of luck.......I am rooting for you!!!

They say the shot is USUALLY out of your system within 10 days. It can linger in some. I'd test again tomorrow with same brand and see if is darker. It's sounding very encouraging!

Thats what i'm worried about.  hoping the negative result on monday meant that was out of my system...  but you never know.  obviously there is a reason for NOT taking a hpt...  but i think i needed the boost... LOL.  the waiting is causing the anxiety to take over.
thanks for you response.

I'd say it's a BFP since you did have a neg the test before so I'd almost bet you're pregnant.....congrats if so.....

I totally know what you mean.  I did IVF, and up until the day before I went in for my beta, my HPT's were coming back negative. I was so down thinking it did not work.  When I went for the beta blood test, my level was 95. So, at that level it should have should in my urine, but it didn't.  They said that it was probably due to the rate of absorbtion - I having a slower rate.  Now, you could have a faster rate of absorbtion which would mean that a Congratulations is due.  And, of course, the longer the BFP's come on the HPT's, the more chances are that this month was a successfuI month for you - I really hope this is the case for you......waiting is so stressful.  I really am rooting for you a BFP!!!!!!!!!  Good luck and keep us all posted!!!

I am 7dpt and have been doing HPT since 4dpt....I am slightly obessesive.  They have all come back BFN.  My blood work is going to be done on Friday so we shall see.  I'll probably do one more tommorrow and then let the blood work on Friday be the final test.  I tested positive with my first one about 5dpt (m/c at 7 weeks).  I am down though...no symptoms and last time I had symptoms.  I was bloated and had cramping and very swollen breasts.  This time nothing.  I feel like any second I could get AF and should on Monday or Tuesday.  Anyone else never have symptoms but test positve with the Dr.
Pinkpanter-there is really no knowing when the IVF will work.  My worked on the first try but I know people who have tried 9 times.  Go for it!

Hello to all.  I am so impressed of the support system here.  I wish I had found this website when I first started my IVF cycle!!!  I am so shocked and I guess a bit relieved that I am not the only one who is going through anxiety.  Dixiegal1, I did almost the exact same thing as you.  I took my hcg shot on 7/23; retrieval on 7/25; transfer of 3 eggs on 7/28.  I am due to take a blood pregnancy test on 8/7 but last night my anxiety and emotions got the best of me.  I was looking for my husband to encourage me to wait until 'Wednesday but of course he didn't.  So, he went to the store and bought  EPT which had three tests in it.  So, we took one last night and the results were positive.  So, first thing this morning I took another one and it also came back positive.  So, of course, tomorrow morning I will take another one just to see and possibly Wednesday before I go to the lab.(LOL) I have faith but I am human as well, so I am asking anyone who could offer any advice rather it is positive or negative feedback.  We decided not to share this experience with any friends or family in case things didn't work out.  Could this possibly be?????

I'm so new to all this, so I don't want to give you any wrong information-- but it certainly does sound good!  The best of luck to you.  I had my blood test today and it was negative.  I'm devastated, but the support from this forum is tremendous.  Please let us know how things go.  I'll be sending you lots of positive thoughts!!!!!!!!

Not to be a downer...wishing you all success, but....take it from a seasoned traveler....a positive test doesn't mean a successful pregnancy. I have had a few positive blood tests and unfortunately they failed week 6 of gestation. I now wont consider myself pregnant til I see a heart beat on a week 8 scan...even then, until I hold that baby in my arms...... :-)

I am now 9dpt and have had 2 faint plus signs on my HPT for the past 2 days.  I don't go to the DR. until Fri, but since I have NEVER had a positive pregnancy test in 4.5 years of trying, it is sooo hard not to get excited!!!

What do you mean when you say that a positive blood test doesn't mean a successful pregnancy?  My blood test came back positve on Aug. 8 with a HCG level of 302 then I had to go back on Aug. 10 and my HCG was 708. I took another one yesterday but my doc hasn't called me back with the results.  So, should I still be worried????

mrsstr- Good luck to you and I hope that your bpt come back positive.  And it's ok to get excited but just be open minded about the situation because anything could happen.  Keep us posted.

Please don't get me wrong, there is still reason to be excited. Those levels are very promising! For those of us who have been trying for years (and going thru IVF) you can't help but get excited! And many times a +ve test does lead on to a successful pregnancy. However, one thing my docs did not tell me about...I found out about it once it had happened...that it is possible to be "sort of" pregnant. I have had what is called a "blighted ovum" which is a pregnancy sac but no baby developing in it. Since it is the sac that produces the hCG and not the baby, it is possible to have a +ve test and not be pregnant. I tell you this not to scare you....sorry if I have....I tell you to inform you and everyone else. Please anyone else...if you have any questions re this, I'm happy to answer them.

As it turns out, I'm stressing coz I had a frozen embryo T/F least week and am sweating it out till my blood test next week...trying to reist the urge to wee on a stick!!

Would also like to comment on the support. Think it's fantastic there is somewhere we can talk about this stuff with people going thru the same thing! Get's tough doesn't it ladies! Shed more tears than I care to. Big hug and love to you all. My thoughs and best wishes are with you all!  :-)

Thank you for all your information.  My husband and I have been trying since 2004 to get pg.  We finally decided to try IVF after 4 failed IUI attempts.  I had my ER on 8/7/07 and my ET on 8/10/07.  My blood test is not till 9-2-07...We can't wait.  Infact my husband is counting the days!!  :)  I want to take a HPT but I am afraid that if it turns out negative I will be bummed!!  And if it would be positive...I'd be terrified it wasn't accurate (as you all say the HCG shot could cause neg results).  I am hopefull...BUT no symptoms here...I am glad I finally found a web page w/ recent entries.

Aloha, from Hawaii.  Thanks for the info.  I have never heard of that and my doctor sure didn't tell me of such a pregnancy.  I took another bpt on Monday and this time my hcg level was over 2000.  I hope that this is a good thing.  My hcg levels continue to increase. So, how can your sac continue to grow if there is no baby inside?  If there is no baby then what happens to the sac?  Were you having any symptoms, if so what were they or did you just show up for your ultrasound and that's when you found out?  Please inform cause Ihave my 6 week ultrasound on aug 23.
