ovulation

I took femara this month and had an HCG shot on day 12 of my cycle.  I have done this previous months with the same result each time, I start my period exactly 14 days after the shot.  This month it has been 15 days since my shot and I haven't started yet, and I took a pregnancy test hoping to see a positive but it was negative.  Is it typical for  the luteal phase to change? I thought that it was always the same.  Can you have a false negative even with the HCG shot?  I'm confused and stressing I have been trying for 3 years now and I just want this more than anything, could I just be causing my period to be late because I want it too much?

Update: I still haven't started my period, I'm now on day 32 (I usually am only 26-28 day periods).  Still getting negative test results 8-(  now I guess I'm going to have to go to the dr to figure out what's wrong if I'm not pregnant.  Anybody have any ideas?  Suggestions?

I have done hcg shot twice now - once luteal phase was 16 days, the next time 15. RE said that # of follicles can affect luteal phase - having multiple follicles can lengthen luteal phase bc it increases progesterone level. Once the hcg shot is out of your system you could get a "false neg" if the pregnancy hcg level is not high enough for the test to detect yet. Some brands of tests are more sensitive than others. Good luck!
