progesterone shot

i havent had a period in 5 months now since i quit taking my birth control (depo shot). i went to my obgyn and he said that i had amenorrhea and gave me a progesterone shot to kick start my periods. he told me that i should have a period in 5-7 days. well that was two weeks ago and still no period! i have another appointment in 2 weeks. should i be concerned that i still havent started my period? what else could be wrong with me? thanks in advance:)

thanks. my doctor said if i dont start in the next 7 days hes going to run some test. do you have any idea what kind of test?

Hi,
In your case this could be post pill amenorrhea that results from prolonged use of contraceptive pills and depot shots. The periods stop because of suppression of pituitary gland in the brain by the contraceptive pills or depot shots. Generally the periods return in 6 months time. Taking progesterone helps in getting periods earlier. Hence you may wait for some time and see the results.
