metformin and clomid at the same time?

hi!
I went to see my OB yesterday and he gave me a prescription on Clomid.  Can I take them with Metformin at the same time?

Also when can we have intercourse after taking comid?  he told me to take it from the third day of my cycle till 7th.

My OB seems busy that he did not bother to tell me how to use them and when to have intercourse  :(

I was told I have PCOS and told to be on a carb free diet and exercise then got prescribed metformin 500mg and clomid but was not told how to take them and as a first time ttc its frustrating not to know :(

My doctor just told me to take them and no more information is given.  I think he's assuming that I would know.  He's really hard to contact him being an endocrinologist :( thanks for the info you gave me.  at least now I have an idea.....

this was my first time on clomid and I took it days 5-9 my Dr advised no BD on CD 9 -11 and then BD on days 12...14 and 16. I know it could be different for you, but I thought I would share this, maybe it could help you. When do you usually O? I would BD every other day just to be on the safe side. And I didn't have any ultrasound to see how many mature follicles I had or anything. If AF comes I go in and she'll do a pelvic exam ( they call it a clomid check) Well good luck to you. I wish you the best!

AWWWW, don't worry, you will get the hang of it. Search the posts here, and get more points of view. I took Clomid for 2 months, and it was fine. But you do need to know when you ovulate.

You should ask your OB for a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE). They specialize in fertility and will pay more attention to you.

Also, go to www.fertilityfriend.com. It is a great resource. Don't stress out! You'll learn :-)

I am so stressed and about to cry now.  Maybe it's all the hormone thing, but it's getting in to me.  Thanks for responding :)  I am sure it will be great after these trials :)

You can take both at the same time. Beware, though, and take the Metformin with food at night, and easy on the carbs. I just started it almost two weeks ago, and I had severe nausea for about the entire time until yesterday. I was supposed to take 500mg for one week, then 1000 mg the next week, up to 1500 mg a week later. Well, I took 500mg for three dyas, and then went up to 1000mg. It has been difficult!

Your OB should have told you to come back in for an ultrasound on cd12 or so to see if you have any mature follicles and are ovulating so you know when to have intercourse. Or, if you are charting your ovulation at home, he should have advised you on that.

I get ultraounds, so I know when to bd (baby dance), but the other ladies on this forum know all about it. I am sure you will get some good advice here :-)
