I remember for many years feeling like somebody had me in a bearhug and was squeezing me too tight and it was very hard to breathe let alone do anything.  I wonder if this is a "stage" of some sort that we go through, perhaps when the fibro invades our ribcage muscles.  I have that now occassionally in what I guess they call a flare-up.  The most recent place the fibro 'invaded' was the sole of my left foot a couple of years ago and I found that for me I have foound that heat and massage eventually would give me relief.  I haven't had it in my right foot so I'm hoping I never will.  I've lived alone for many years now so I refuse to try meds because they when I have they really  throw my body for a loop which makes looking  after myself impossible.

hi

i have tried this i had a coach i paid private for a while to teach me meditation but it doest work i'm afraid my muscle just tighten everytime i use them from tip to toe its even hard to breath the only time it goes is with diazapam and i can sleep but as soon as a wake and move there back again the ribs are the worst like a band around my middle.

iive got all the music talking to each part of my muscle telling it to relax and that is o.k on normal fibro days but these are so intense there unreal and i am sure they are not fibro its not just tight muscles its more then that its hard to explain but thanks for your advise its good cause that techingue is good for relaxing i might start magnisium tablets again and see if that helps i take quinne as well.

I had those symptoms for many years, and yes I have Fibromyalgia/CFS/MPS.  It got so bad my whole body would shut down and I couldn't move or talk for hours at a time every day, although I was conscious.
Medications were not the answer for me, everything they tried made it worse.
However I've gone for months now without any problems, here is what helped me.
A muscle relaxation technique.  Lie on your back with knees bent and arms anywhere above the waist. Close your eyes and start focusing on the part of your body you want to relax, I usually start with my back, think of the muscles in your back, upper back lower back, spinal muscles, psoas and as you think of each one tell it to "relax and release".  Go through you whole body this way. If you find it difficult put on some relaxing music or sounds of nature in the background.
No, I'm not playing mind games  and it would be a shame if you dismiss this because it works.
At first, because all my muscles were so tight, it was hard to stay in that position, but stick it out within 20 minutes if you stay at it you will find your muscles relax, and the more use practice this the faster your muscles will respond by relaxing.
I had not been able to stretch or yawn in many years and after a couple of weeks doing this relaxing exercise, I now do both again naurally.
At first I did this relaxing exercise as many times a day as I thought of it, and it got easier every time.  Now I only do it after I am in bed at night and my body will yawn and stretch every time.
Previous to that, when I went to bed my body would spasm so badly it would jump right off the bed, and various spasms would continue for hours.  I wasn't able to walk without someone's assistance or get up from a chair without help.  It seemed all my muscles were pulled tight and would never relax.
The past few months I have also been taking a supplement of calcium called EZorb.  Whatever the reason my body has seemed to improve even more and my sleep quality has improved enormously, partly because it actually "relaxes" when I lie down and I can stay in one position for hours now and sleep.

I have been getting massive spasming when I go to bed.  I'm sure I look like I'm having seizures, because the spasms are so bad.

My daughter has had a pretty hard life starting off at 3 years with juvenile rhuematoid arthritis and then at age 6 was diagnosed with a severe form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; she had a heart transplant in 1999.

Your question really makes me wonder! My daughter has this happen to her; we counted 18 different spasms going on at one time with her! At first we thought the spasms were due to the immuno-suppresent drugs she was taking. She too, thinks she suffers from Fibro like I do; one thing we do know is that her magnesium levels are low when this happens, so you might want to have some blood work done to rule that out.
