Completely Numb

My sincere apologies if I am posting in the wrong place, this is my 1st post here, and I did not know where my question should go.

I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia; I have been trying to read about it as much as I can.  However I don’t know if what I am experiencing is Fibro related.

I woke up in the middle of the night with my right arm tingling, painful  & completely numb to the touch.  My entire arm had gone limp.  I also have no strength in my right hand.  I was terrified that it might have been a stroke but my friend a former nursing student did a quick nuero exam and was confident that was not the problem.

It is just a little bit better today, though not much.  Today I noticed a “knot” under the skin just above the elbow that hurts to the touch; the knot has 3 small red lines on it.  I don’t recall bumping the arm, and in trying to figure out what it could be, I thought I may have fallen asleep on the TV remote, but I don’t think I did.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I called my doctor about this last week,  I too found a knot (tender to the touch)  right about the bend in my elbow (front side) my friend thought it felt as if it were in a vien, which scared me to death.  I had an appointment with my doctor today but,  I called last week and left a message with the nurse and said if this is something I should be concerned about please call me prior to my visit.  I heard nothing back so I am assuming that they felt it just goes with the territory.  When I was tested a couple of years ago they seemed to think it was Peripheal Neuropothy.  This would be determined by a Neuro with test such as EMG's.  Having been diagnosed 12 + years ago I think I have been through every test that there is just short of the nerve biopsy (done only at John Hopkins).  I have pretty much came to the conclusion that I am not having any more such test done.  I can not afford them and it seems they all come back normal.  I wish you luck in finding a doctor that recognizes these symptons and can hopefully help you.  Many people seem to have good luck with Lyrica.  I was not one of them.

I feel your pain and hope that you find relief.  Do not panic though you most likely are not having a stroke or anything more serious,  just the old Fibro talking. Good luck

Hi there sorry to hear about your pain.  Do you have any pain in your neck at all?  Sometimes a bulging or herniated disk can also cause shoulder and arm pain.

If it continues, I would definately get it checked out sooner than later.

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted.

It sounds to me like you've got a pinched nerve somewhere.  I agree with PlateletGal, you need to get with a neurologist and have nerve conduction studies done.  This will tell them which nerve is involved.

If I were in your shoes... if the numbness continued, then I would see a Neurologist and they will probably do nerve conduction studies on your arm.
