DO YOU HAVE TO RIP OFF YOUR BRA?!

How many of you find it unbearable to wear a bra? especially underwired... also other clothing discomfort? Am I the only one who feels the need to rip off every item of clothing? Lol & not in the bedroom kind of way ;) I find wearing jewellery really irritating too, rings, necklace, earings. Aaaargh! :-D It's lucky I'm not in public very often haha, for the sake of family members I do live in my nightdress! If anyone can relate to this madness that your family and friends can't understand, I'd love to hear your comments. I'm new to this forum so hi to my new potential friends. :) x

Thanks for the information. I am relieved that doctors are at least acknowledging that this is a difficult problem for some of us, but I'm also disheartened that there is no known solution. Let us know if there are any new developments!

I just started getting terrible burning in my shoulder blades, still going through all the doc BS trying to figure it all out. As of now dr is calling is neuralgia but my research is pointing to fibromyalgia. Up to now I've been given Naproxen for pain, went back to dr laughed in his face, that didn't even touch the pain. The he gave me Vicodin, which takes the edge off but I don't like the way it kills my appetite (I could literally go all day w/o eating) and I don't want to get addicted. Now, I have an rx for Neurontin, hopefully it works. I am still expected to take the Vicodin though, which bothers me. Any suggestions for an alternative?
I agree with the bra comment, I cannot stand to wear one because of pain but am forced to otherwise you can see my nips through shirts. I also just finished school and got certified as an MA just before this pain came on and I am finding that carrying my stethoscope on my neck is now impossible! I even tried getting a lighter one, but it's really just the touch not the weight.
I started my new job six weeks ago and I'm on probation for 90 days, they don't know about any of my issues yet. I'm having to struggle to get to dr appts and deal with the pain discreetly. I don't want to take Vicodin while working with patients so I skip it until after work, but by then I'm usually in so much pain I drive home in tears. I worked really hard for this and I feel it slipping away due to this unbearable pain.
I am afraid of this getting worse or spreading to other areas of my body and it scares the crap out of me.
Venting feels good, no one understands me how I feel because they don't get what it's like. I'm tired of comments like 'oh, your back hurts, you should get a massage' or people telling me its all in my head.

I've had fibromyalgia for 10 years now.  MY comfort has finally overridden caring what others think and I don't wear a bra anymore.  If others don't like it, that is NOT my problem. I have enough problems, i don't need to take on anyone else's.

I have found a style called "Lagenlook" that is loose, soft and comfortable and in most case, people don't know I don't have on a bra.  Look it up.  Some of it is awful, but there are some places that do a stylish job of it without looking homeless or like the gypsy fortune teller.

I refuse to be dictated to by others. It's enough this disease dictates so much.  If I want to go out and I feel well enough, I go and I go proudly without a bra that makes me hurt.

Funny, (well kindof)...I  had a doctor ask me once if people come up behind me and tuck my tags into my shirt often. I said "Yes" all the time and it drives me crazy. He said it is a hidden symptom of fibro. Said that the tags tend to drive fibro people crazy, so often they subconciously tend to have them on the outside of their shirts without even knowing it! And YES I cannot stand wearing a bra...HATE it! My shoulders ache like crazy. This is difficult considering I still work fulltime. I often have my strap hanging down my arms, which can be embarassing if one of my patients/peers notice. Also I have kids at home so it is hard to walk around braless with them or their friends hanging out at the house. But I often hit the point that this is my house, if you don't like it go somewhere else! LOL. I wear a lot of sports bras, they tend to feel a little better and give better support.

I cut all the tags off of everything too.
Can't stand them!   They irritate, tickle or poke - so they gotta go!!

oh my god yes!  The bra is the first to go.  The sensitivity is so bad,....I have had to cut the tags off of all my shirts, can no longer wear any jewelry, no heavy or scratchy clothing...at times even having my hair touch my neck drives me crazy!!!!  So nice to not feel alone with this, although sorry for anyone that has to go thru this.

Every day when I go home the first thing I do is take off my shoes and my bra! I used to break out in carbuncles (aka Boils) in the areas that my bra rested. This doesn't happen anymore due to a few changes.

I buy all cotton (t-shirt) type of bras. It absorbs sweat better, smoother on the skin from irritation, and I can find nice ones that give the girls some umph.

However,at the end of the day, my shoulders are screaming. I have developed pretty bad skin sensory problems around my shoulders. (I wear a lot of tank tops at home.)

Still, t-shirt cotton bras have been the softest and easiest. I get mine from Lane Bryant, they are expensive, but mine last for a very long time.

The second thing I do is the soap I use is a natural handmade soap. No more harsh sulfates on this ladies skin. I hope on Etsy buy some wonderful handmade soap. I'm even looking at giving a shot to making my own!

My Father had really awful psoriasis. I used to treat his with a Olive Oil & Coconut Oil mixture. Sweaty moisture could be a problem with him too so I would add a powder that had no talc in it. It took a while and persistence, but his psoriasis got a lot better to the point most people never knew he had it. (His was highly visible.)

I hear you.  I can't just run out the door at any given moment either.  If someone says they are coming over I have to get dressed - otherwise I just wear shorts and a dark T shirt.  -  I do get out, though.  Might take me an hour to get ready - but I'll wait until the last minute to put my clothes on!
So sorry about the psoriasis under your breasts!  Ouch!  What a problem.  I had lichen under my breasts one year and it wasn't very pleasant - so I can relate to some extent.   I have some eczema right where my bra band goes on my back - does that count?  LOL   It itches like crazy and my bra bothers me so much!

glad I'm not alone.... wishing you the best

I am the same way. I hate doc appts because it means I have to wear a bra. I hate going anywhere at all because I can't stand regular clothes. As soon as I get home I peel off everything and just wear a tank and shorts or a nightgown. I have psoriasis besides fibro so the rash under my breast area also contributes to my sensitivity.

I hate being this way because when I say I can't go anywhere because then I would have to wear clothes people look at you funny and think your strange so I just usually make up some excuse instead. My extended family stopped inviting me places so I figured they finally got the picture that I don't like going out. I am glad because I get sick of making up fake excuses.

Had to laugh when I read this, as it is almost noon and I am still in my housecoat!  Nothing under it!   I put off until the last minute to wear clothing and I often feel like the manufacturers don't know how to make panties that fit right!
Hate bras, and yes, I yank it off as soon as I am in the privacy of home.  I buy lightweight navy blue or black T shirts to wear without my bra so you can't see through them.  I force myself to wear a bra if I know someone is coming over, though, as it's embarrassing to hang so low!
And I can't stand heavy materials!  They feel like they weigh a ton - so it's a challenge to find something comfortable in all sorts of weather.  Winter is especially difficult as if you wear a sweater you will inevitably go into a warm house or building and want to tear the thing off!  I wear only lightweight fleece jackets in the winter.  They are warm enough -and I use a nylon/spandex jacket under it as a lining.   That way I can take off the fleece jacket and still be warm enough in a cold environment.

Yes, I hate clothes too.   -
Right now Dr. Oz is talking about Fibromyalgia on the
TV.

Hi bornthiswayhdbornthiswayHD and welcome to the forum.

Again, I found it's funny that- me being a male- I'm the first to answer
a female type of question here.
You are definitely not the first one with this issue. The heightened discomfort is because of neurotransmitter dysregulation, very prevalent in Fibromyalgia and one of the suspected causative factors.

If modern medicine would be kinder and more considerate to its patients,
then neurotransmitter testing would be available to all Fibro patients.
Instead it is reserved for... you probably guessed it. Pharmaceutical Research to manufacture more psych. and anti-depressant drugs!!!

Well it is nice to see that you have a great sense of humor, something we can all use more of !

Of course I cannot contribute with any personal comments, however, my wife, not a Fibro sufferer, but nonetheless, with suspected neurotransmitter
dysregulation and arthritis , has many such sensitivities and discomfort, as well. She has to wear a titanium watch (much lighter than steel), as the
steel watches are too heavy for her! And many times, she just goes bra-less.

Please post again with any questions or comments that you may have.

Wish you well!
Niko
