Disability

Hey everyone!

I am going to an interview soon about the possibility of getting on disability and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how to present my case.  I have officially been diagnosed with IBS, PCOS, tendinitis and I have had two surgeries on my abdomen.  One for a ruptured appendix and one for the removal of scar tissue. I had to quit my job as a health care aide and have not been able to work since last Sept. All of my test results have been sent to them but I have not been able to see a specialist yet about Fibro.

I've been charting my sleep, CFS/Fibro symptoms and pain symptoms and will bring those charts with me.  The last time I talked to the consult for my case she was very rude and asked me if my doctor had told me that the treatment for Fibro is exercise to which I told her that I tried exercising and ended up sick and in bed for a week.  She doesn't seem to be on my side and practically told me that I was just being lazy.  I have been doing more physically lately but I'm exhausted all the time and I feel like I've worked out all day even when I haven't done much.  I'm also looking after an eight year old boy now (my step-son) and I try my hardest but I cannot keep up with him.  He's up early every morning and sometimes I have to let him watch a movie first thing so I can rest.

Any suggestions or ideas that you have in dealing with a panel of doctors etc.. who will be deciding my fate will be most helpful!

Thanks!

Hi Ruthy,

I am currently using Allsup.com to help me with disability.  Social Security currently does not think FMS/CFS and Lupus are a disability.  They believe since some can work with these symptoms.  My FMS is really bad.  I haven't worked in over a year now.  I can't take Lyrica because I am allergic to it.  I am currently on 2700mg of Nurtin and on several other medications--none seem to help really.  I use a lot of pain pills just to mask the pain so I can make it through a day.  With all these meds, I can't  drive or function.  If I don't take them I can't function.  I finally got my doctor to complete the SSI forms and tell them I am completely disabled.  I also called my congresswoman to help me with Social Security.  She is currently working with me to help me obtain my disability along with Allsup.

You might want to call your congressman and or a disability attorney to help you with your appointment.  That is the only suggestions I can give you.

Good Luck to you,
Rhonda
