Do I have fibromyalgia symptoms

Hi! I am a 34 yr old woman.
Last october , I developed a  flu like illness with low grade fever ,severe muscle and joint pains (both knees and small joints of hand, feet),  and nodes under my jaw.  I was negative for ANA and for some common viral infections .

Most symptoms subsided in two weeks but I continue to have aching pain in both my knee in the tissue  below the knee-caps  and in the tissue at the back of the knee. the ache subsided over a few months, but has flared up again. The aches is usually lesser in the mornings and increase with exertion. I also developed  pain behind  my right elbow  about 2 months ago. There are on and off rashes on my thighs sometimes..

The doctors I have consulted so far are not convinced that I could have symptoms as there are no physical findings or positive lab tests. Are my  symptoms of fibromyalgia or soft tissue rheumatism.

Hi Tina -

I just answered the PM you sent me, but then I read this post and wanted to add something to what I already wrote.

Just because your test results so far have not provided any physical findings or "positive" lab results, that definitely does NOT prove you don't have fibro or CFS.  In fact, there are NO current lab tests, xrays, etc, that are able to "diagnose" either of these.  Unfortunately, that is why there are still a large number of doctors who don't "believe" that fibro or CFS exist - they think that just because they don't have visual proof via a lab test or xray, then it can't possibly be real.  But believe me, it is!!

Keep in mind that any type of illness/disease, etc., can affect people differently, so what is common or happens to one person may or may not be common or happen to you with the same illness.  It's not uncommon for the symptoms of CFS or fibro to be better at some times and worse at others - also not uncommon for not all patients to have every symptoms - some people, their main symptom is pain, while another person, their main symptom could be fatigue.

Give my PM a look and if there's anything else I can help answer for you, please let me know.

Best of luck!

I dont live in the US, Im writing from India..I think its going to be tough finding a fibro-friendly rheumatologist here.

Presuming that I do have fibromyalgia, is it a good sign that my symptoms did improve for a while? I also dont have chronic fatigue symptoms? Does it make it more likely that I would have a good outcome in the long-term?
Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome,
I would definitely get into see a Rheumatologist and have a full work up. It sounds like you may have FM or CFS. You need to see someone who is Fibro- Friendly. Let me know if you need help finding someone in your area. Are you in the US?
