I am happy to say that I have taken matters into my own hands. I was not happy with the Doctor for so easily throwing the label of fibromyalgia at me and prescribing the drug. I see it was easier for her to prescribe narcs and that than to investigate other potentials. So...it is up to me to be proactive. Takes energy, but I am happy to say I am on a journey of shedding some weight and believe already that it is helping. I took tylenol before going to work this last week instead of the narcs. I refuse to go on the drug that is also for depression amongst other things.
Exercise is important and stretching.
:-)
My mom has fibro and my sister has chronic asthma. Paternal Grandmother died of heart falure and my dad has had a heart by pass. Maternal grandmother had diabetes. Thankfully the rest of the family is healthy.
For really bad spasms nothing i took worked until now Magnesium Powder called Ultra Muscleze its comes in powder form and you mix it with water.I was on it for 3 months, its took about 3 weeks to work,i went off it to see what would happen and 4 weeks later got the spasms back agian .Went back on it and they have dissappeared again.I think it works you buy it from a health shop.Guess you could buy it online but i pay $35 australian dollars for it.Eating bananas help too !!
sister with ms,myself and 3 cousins both side of the family with fms all arthritic and breathing problems!! what a lousy lot we are LOL a major genetic stuff wouldnt ya say!!
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia recently after nearly two years of pain in certain areas that wasn't going away without meds. I think it goes back farther though. Arthritis runs in my family. There have been other issues.
I want to learn more about Fibromyalgia. Nortriptyline (pamelor) was prescribed for me. Has anyone been on it and if so, what kinds of results? I have been using a back spasm med along with oxycodone so I could continue working. Before that it was acetamenophen with coedine (forgive spelling errors).
Thanks,
I appreciate any information
I never got married or had children, so I wasn't sure what to vote. My nephew is still very young, but he was diagnosed with Celiac. He also has asthma. But, my grandmother had many of the symptoms that I have. She wasn't taken seriously. I don't think she went to many doctors to try to find out what was wrong. My grandfather didn't believe in doctors. I believed my grandmother, because I had some of the same pains she was talking about. I stayed quiet about them to my immediate family, though, because of the way they talked about my grandmother. My aunt (mother's sister) had aggressive breast cancer. I had an uncle (mother's brother) who died when I was very young who died from MS. I had an aunt (father's sister) who died from some kind of liver cancer but not because of drinking. My father was born with a heart defect and has asthma. My father and all of his brothers have type 2 diabetes and are all severely overweight and all of them have congestive heart failure. I voted that I wasn't sure if these things counted or not.
My mother had fibrocystic breast disease and breast abcessess (so did I). I'm sure she had FMS, but wasn't dx'd. My father had severe migraines (so did I). Four members of my family had cancer (I have had endometrosis, a large uterine fibroid and tumors in my feet). My son had severe asthma when born and MCS to about everything...resulting in constant rashes, swelling and many other symptoms. He still has asthma, but not as bad as during his youth. He also had ADHD and a learning disability. My Aunt (mother's sister) had some type of muscle illness, but I never know exactly what it was...only that it caused her pain.
No it's just me. Everyone else is healthy.
I have one daughter with asthma and another daughter who has a bleeding disorder, kidney problems and heart problems requiring a heart transplant. I am almost certain she also has Fibro.
So it as stands now... the majority of members polled (4) have a family member who has a chronic illness. Is it genetics.... or the spread of pathogens ? Remember a recent study found that the Human papillomavirus Virus (HPV) could be transmitted to babies through the breast milk from an infected mother.

My Mom had severe, crippling RA, I have 2 sisters with severe RA. My brother and my son both have Reiter's Syndrom.
A sister with Fibro, a mother with a host of problems!
