In Dec 2004, I suddenly had horrible neck pain and it lasted for three weeks. The pain went up the back of head too. Came back in Spring of '05 and lasted two months went to doc who gave me muscle relaxers. The pain came back in my neck that summer (July) and became permanent.  Finally, a year and a half later in Nov '06, I was allowed an MRI and got a referral to orthopedic doctor who immediately saw that I had a degenerating disc in my neck, bulging, and a bone spur pressing on the nerve. Later,  (Nov 06) and for other pains and problems, I got a referral to a rheumotologist who said I had fibro. If it's only your neck and head check out a disc problem with an orthopedic doctor. If you have other symptoms and lots of other pain then see a rheumatologist. I now see a pain management specialist. If you check out other post in this forum you'll see my other post replying to others about my list of problems and pains and a little history. Good luck. I hope you are able to find out what's wrong and not have to wait two years like me!

I have been on Lyrica for almost a year now, and it does help with the burning sensations.  The pain for me is still present, but not as bad if the burning feeling was still there.  I hope that you ask your doctor about it and get some results.

(I dont think it is Chiari malformation, because she would have found out about it by now.  I have a Syrinx (hydromyelia) and just found out myself about a year ago.  Unfortunately, theres not much they can do if its small--like mine.

Fibro has many, many different aspects.  It can affect you in so many different ways............hope you get well soon.

I know the feeling that you are having.  I have pain in the back of my neck that runs from the back of my neck up to the front part of my head. The pain specialist that I go to told me thats the Fibromyalgia.  I have been suffering with Fibromyalgia for over 10 years, where it got to the point I had to give up my job because of the severe muscle pain, and to top it off I have arthritus as well.   I do go to a chiropractor 2-3 times a week for heat and massage. It does help.  Now just last week I went to a Doctor I have been seeing for over 10 years for other conditions and I was telling him  how badly my Fibromyalgia was acting up and I was tired of the Vicodin, or the 800mg of Motrin.  He told me about a medication called Lyrica, so at this point I will try anything that I feel will help me.  I got the medication and on the second night I felt such a relief, there was no stiffness in my  neck, no pain in the back of my head, etc it was gone, so this medication is working wonders for my Fibromyalgia.
I hope that this information will be a help to you.  I would not put this kind of pain on my worst enemy if I had any.
God bless you and I hope you will find relief.

Have you ever been in a car accident or had any type of whiplash from another type of accident? I have sufferred whiplashes from accidents and falls and have had chronic neck pain w/headaches in the past. If left untreated it can cause numbness and/or a feeling of pins and needles in your arms or fingers, along with headaches and chronic stiffness and pain. When I was younger, I received chiropractic adjustments and that cured the problem. I had to have multiple treatments before my neck stabilized and my pain stayed gone, but it worked. I eventually ended up working for Chiropractors for the next 13 years. I have seen people w/chronic headaches, couldn't stand, walk or sit all get well with the adjustments. This may or may not be your problem but I wanted to share my experiences with you.
In recent years I have been diagnosed w/fibromyalgia. What you describe does not sound like that to me. I hurt all over. It comes and goes in flare-ups and I have many tender areas. It's chronic and doesn't go away. Some days it's hard to even get out of bed. It feels like I have arthritis in my whole body some days but I don't.

Google Chiari malformation.  Not saying you have this but the symptoms fit.

I don't have TMJ, that I know of. I can't think of anything that would have affected my bite, either. It's so weird how it came on all of a sudden and has lasted for 2 weeks.

Not sure about fibro, but do you have TMJ?  Or has your bite been off lately because of something (dental procedure, etc)...?
