I need a good nights sleep!!!!!

Hi Guys,
I have suffered from Fibromyagia for 18 years.  I lived in the UK and ended up pratically w/c bound dueing the cold months which lasted most of the year.  I was lucky because I was born in Australia, so 6 years ago we packed up house and moved with husband in tow to Queensland.  The best move I have ever made, I have been able to go back to work part-time and the hot weather has helped no end.  Winter only lasting 3 months.  Like everything about Fibromyalgia  managing the pain is the most important part.  After a while a drug that has worked for say 4 year suddenly does not work as well.
I was on Amitriptyline for a number of years and it worked quite well until my heart started to beat faster than normal the doctor took me of them straight away.  I was also on Voltaran and that caused me to have stomach problems so now I have to take Somac for that.
Recently my doctor tried me on Stilnox, low dose for my sleep problem but it had a stange affect on me, I started to have memory problems,  well lets say more than usual.  So would rather not take it although it really helped me to sleep and feel refeshed in the morning.  So now I am looking for something that can help me get a better night sleep.  Is there any one out there that has the name of great drug that can do that.  I am waking up like I have been run over by a bus and my work is starting to suffer, it is becoming  harder again to cope with pain etc.
I would be grateful if anyone could give some ideas of new drugs that are out there.  My doctor is very good and listens to me.  Thanks in advance

Yes, a good mattress and pillow is one of the many effective way to ensure a good night sleep.

Did Lunesta give you a very bad taste in mouth.....like everything tastes extremely bitter and sour?

Wish you continue to get good nite sleep.

I finally found a "cure" for my lack of good sleep.  First (and i think the most important) is a memory foam mattress pad.  I would recomend this even if the Lyica is helping... it really helps the morning stiffness.  I also take Lunesta for those tough nights.  Since my Lyrica was increased, I haven't needed the Lunesta.
Good Luck

Thanks everyone who replied.

I have started taking Lyrica and wow it really is working for me.  A clear head in the morning priceless.  It's keeping my pain under control as well.  Just trouble relaxing at night so will keep taking my valium in small amounts.

I take an herb called passionflower when I need help sleeping. It was used in ancient times for insomnia. It usually works for me. You can find it at any health food store or online. The side effects are mild for me, just a little nausea.

Hi,

I've tried many different meds to help my brain calms down .most of them have side effects that makes you zombie like upon wake up.   I find quieting my brain is the most important aspect of getting a good night sleep.  I don't watch any movies, tv shows that excites me too much, I also do some stretching before I head on to bed.

Be mindful of what drugs you take......some can make you suicidal and angry...I would take notes when I try new drugs, also pay close attention to your symptoms when there's changes beyond your norm.

Good luck.

trazadone works. It helps with pain and helps with sleep.  Be careful with all the other things you are taking.  Something for sleep, depression and or anxiety helps.
I take lunesta for sleep, cymbalta for those down times it also helps with pain.  I have had 8 surgeries so I do take other pain meds.

Hi,

I moved from South Aussie to Queensland for the exact same reason, where in Qld are you? I tried endep for a week and couldnt wake up so I actually take Valium, only when I am about to have a relapse and it helps ive been taking it for 15 yrs or so and not dependant at all. I find when you are in a flare stage nothing helps.

STAY away from Stillnox, here in Aus there was a young girl who took it walked out the front door and jumped off a bridge. it has a history of BAD BAD side effects.

I try valerian but it makes me depressed so valium it is for me through my flares!

I have had fibro for 21 years . Trouble getting to sleep , staying asleep and no 4th stage dream sleep. The last 6 months I fall aseep easily, stay asleep and dream. The only difference is that I stopped eating red meat. Simple, but true! wish I had known. Give it a try.

Neurontin,  and muslce relaxer.  That is what I use to sleep.  Neurontin is relax nerves in the body ,  it also helps with pain.   It is also jused for seizeres.   At night it will help you sleep,  youcan aso use it in the day if you get up and move around it will not make you sleepy.  The muslce relaxer is like taking an sleeping pill.   The two together  works great for sleep.
