Is this the Fibro?

I have FM and have researched for a long time my symptoms and haven't hit on anyone similar to me.  I am 36 and am wondering if I have something ontop of having the Fibro. I can't walk for long periods of time.  My legs become extremely sore and the pain burns deep into my upper thigh tissue.  Any light touching of my upper thigh (which makes me thinks it's the FM) is excruciating.  The part I wonder about is the extreme leg weakness that follows.  I sometimes can't even feel my upper thighs.  It's as if they disappeared and I will fall over.  The muscles just evaporated.  If it gets too bad (all I did was run a few errands last night that required walking) I can feel an electrical impulse run through my body and the legs begin to jerk while I sit on the couch and watch t.v.  Anybody out there have anything similar?

Nice to hear from you.  So sorry the Lyrica was not tolerable for you.  I am a retired RN after 35 yrs. The second most recommended drug is Cymbalta.  If you cannot take Lyrica, perhaps you can take Cymbalta.  Although, they both do the same thing. You will see on this website posters recommend Hylands Restless Legs for the jerking. It's natural and I understand you can get it at any health food store. I, myself have not needed it, yet.  I am currently tapering off of Dilaudid, one of the more potent narcotics.  I take only 2 pills (8mg.)/day and then if I start aching I take 800mg of Motrin.  No wd's.  I consider myself very lucky, but I have not completely stopped the Dilaudid, yet.  So, I don't know what lies in store for me when I do. I will finish my bottle soon so I don't have to wait too long to see what happens.  In the meantime I need to stock up on the natural remedies that have been recommended to help the symptoms of wd's.  I hope and pray it won't be too bad.  I'm convinced that I have an especially strong constitution.  I have hypertension, IBS, osteoarthrits, anxiety and depression.  I've been on Prozac for so many years, I really wonder if it does anything for me anymore.  I wouldn't stop it without an Md's advice, though. As a result of tapering off the narcotic I feel wonderful.  Not in a fog, anymore. Thank God, I no longer have to worry about holding down a job.  I'm elated that I recented was granted disability, which pays more per month than regular social security.  Alot of people are refused disability on the first try, but I got it. Yoohoo! My hubby passed away in 2006 and I've had it rough without him.  My house is in foreclosure so I'm permanently anxious about that. I want to sell it and get a small apartment.  But, as I'm sure you aware the housing market is kaput, and houses are just not selling like they used to.  Oh well, whaddya gonna do?  Thanks for writing.  Keep me posted on how you're doing and if you tried the Cymbalta.

Thank you for your comment!  I tried Lyrica but the side effects were too much for me.  Something the Mayo Clinic told me is a wonderful issue with people with fm.  We are very sensitive to medication so I can see why the lower dose would work for you.  I am very glad that you found something.  I am on an anti-depressant which helped me for a while.  Now I'm in a tail spin.  The thing that concerns me the most is this leg jerking.  My husband has epilepsy and his arms will jerk like this as his body's warning that a seizure may come.  Instead it is with my legs and I have no history of seizures.  I need to use a cane to walk when It's really bad and I'm only 36.  It doesn't happen in my sleep.  Only when I'm awake.  I worked today and now my muscles are mush.  Won't stop twitching.  I wish I could join their party!  It's nice to know people understand and I try not to ask, "why?"  Just tired of hurting and jerking.

My dear, I feel for you.  It's quite miserable, I'm sure.  I have all the symptoms of Fibro, so being a nurse, I finally got up the nerve to ask for Lyrica. Lo and behold, I'm a new person. I'm on 50mg twice/day which actually is below the recommended dose which is 150mg/day.  But, I feel wonderful.  My worst symptoms were severe shoulder and arm pain which worsened when I would raise my arms.  I was miserable. I hope you have a good doctor because you really need one.  Have you had Lyrica?  Not pushing anything, just something for you to consider.  Take care of yourself.  You can write me back. I would welcome it.
