Looking for help

I'm looking for a doctor who treats fibromyalgia.  I have been from doctor to doctor, and I only end up feeling like I'm a hypochondriac, or like the doctors think I'm just looking for pain pills...and although I am, it's not because I'm looking to get high...I'm just looking for relief.  I finally confided to a friend how I was feeling and what I was going through, and she told me she has a  friend in Chicago who suffered from FM, and said her symptoms sound very similar to what I described.  I'd like to find a doctor in Louisville who treats FM and doesn't treat the patient like they're just hitting them up for pain pills.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Great you two are close and can share Dr. info.  I had to pay myself to go to the rock star DR. for a consult, but then changed Dr's after complaining to my ins. co.  If you can, it may be worth it!   There is a pain managment site that recommends Dr's all over the country. Fogot what it is now. Try googling pain.  It is not this forum..

Hi,  I'm sorry you are in pain...I know how you feel.  I have made an appointment with a Dr. Metz-Dunn...a friend of mine who suffered from pain from a back injury went to Dr. Metz-Dunn and really liked her.  So I thought I'd try there, maybe if she can't help me, she can refer me to someone who can....and I also have not been diagnosed with FM...it's just a possibility I think because of the symptoms I'm having, but I also had juvenile rheumatoid artheritis when I was 10, it had gotten better, but now that I'm in my 40's, maybe that's what is causing the pain.  I'll give an update after I see the Doctor.  Good luck.

thank you for your quick response. I  will have to suggest that to my doctor. She is one that does not believe in pain meds for much of anything. Or shall I say one of the doctors I go to. The rhuematologist did not believe in pain pills either.  I am waiting to be weined off of some meds that was to help me sleep so that I can get on the lyrica, but honestly I am scared to take the Lyrica after reading all the information given on this site. As for the TENS unit, yes I do have one from previous back problems. I do not know where to begin using it though since I hurt all over. Thank you for your help.

Have you seen a pain specialist ? A physician in a pain clinic may know more about your condition and how to treat the pain. Also, do you have TENS unit ? My friend who has fibro is using one and says that it is helping her a great deal.

Did you ever find a doctor that treated fibromyalgia?  I am in Louisville as well and suffer with FM. I am very frustrated and tired of being in pain. I cannot even get the doctors to give me pain pills. They say that they will not help me.  I wish they could feel my pain and know what I go through on a daily basis. Please help.
