Meet Dr. Gordon Broderick, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, Canada

An interview with Dr. Gordon Broderick. Dr. Broderick has been an Associate Professor since 2006 in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, in Edmonton. Dr. Broderick is one of those quiet geniuses who have joined the research community in searching for biomarkers to trace the disease progression of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

One of Dr. Broderick's statements about CFS after he began to research this disease:

"To be honest, I was also struck by the magnitude of the illness' impact and by how poorly understood it still is. I was also saddened by the stigma often associated with this illness and how poorly equipped physicians are to recognize this as a very real physiological disorder."

Oh yes, I read that 'abused as a child' part too.  It's like that one doc. mentioned...if you don't have a psychological problem before finding you have one of these diseases, you will afterwords.

Ridiculous!

"Now, why is it that this information is unpublished by the CDC?"

The CDC has become a joke. Those of us who have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, may have heard about scandals involving CDC funding that was allocated for this devastating illness. These scandals were reported by the Washington Post and other respected news sources around the country. CDC officials diverted research funds away from CFS research and misled Congress about the matter, according to the Inspector-General's report.

The CDC, in my opinion, has wasted millions of dollars allocated for CFS research. Their latest research was focusing on psychological problems in CFS patients ! We thought this issue was already tackled, but apparently not. Now these bozos are trying to link child abuse with CFS. Well I was never abused as a child, so they need to get back to their labs and do more research. These non-profit institutes who have less money have already kicked their butts !

Very good article. I'm glad more are getting on the ball with research.

I'm going to repost this info. (in case you didn't see it in a previous area).

http://www.rheumatology.org/publications/classification/fibromyalgia/fibro.asp?aud=mem

~23 deaths per year from 1979–1998. [Unpublished CDC data]
Crude numbers of deaths coded as underlying cause-of-death as 729.1 rose from 8 in 1979 to a high of 45 in 1997.
In 1998,”Myositis and Myalgia, Unspecified” accounted for only 0.45% (42/9367) of all deaths attributed to arthritis and other rheumatic conditions.

Now, why is it that this information is unpublished by the CDC?  No wonder the press continues to publish such nonsense as they do regarding "Is Fibromyalgia Real?".  It would be nice to see exactly what were the underlying factors that resulted in death (since FMS is coded under 729.1).  I feel it's an injustice to not put this out to the public.
