Migraines, kidney insufficiency and CFS/FMS

I only just started seeing a neurologist.  I haven't been diagnosed, so I haven't been able to figure out if this is CFS or FMS or possibly both.  I do know, though, that I've been in such pain for the past couple of weeks that I would love to get some relief from.  I have plenty of pain in plenty of places, but the migraine is the worst.  The trouble is that I don't know what I can do for any relief at the moment for the migraine behind my eyes.  I'm allergic to all opiates.  Those require a prescription anyway.  I have trouble using Tylenol.  And, with the kidney issue I can't take any of the NSAIDS.  And, the trouble of it is, the NSAIDS don't really touch any of the pain I usually suffer anyway, so it doesn't make any sense to take any of those things.

I'm not familiar with any of those other prescription medications.  Does anyone know what is safe for me to try that won't have a negative effect on my kidneys?  I'm so frustrated with not getting any relief from this non-stop migraine that seems to only be getting worse.

There is also a form of electric massaging eye mask that may help.  You could do a google search on it to learn more about them.  They are relatively inexpensive.  I use to get them when I was a teenager and I feel for you.  They are one of the worst things i've ever had in my life...so much pain.

I pray you find something that will help and take care of yourself.

Thank you for your comments.  I will be seeing the neurologist sooner than the PCP, so I wrote myself a note to see what he has to say about migraine meds.  I will ask him about Replax samples, if he has some.

He suggested something called Migrelief, but I did some research on it, and I don't think the nephrologist wants me to take that one, because he told me not to take anything with magnesium in it.  Magnesium is supposed to help with migraines, too.  Migrelief has a standardized form of feverfew, which is touted to be a natural migraine reliever.  Well, clearly I can't use that one 'til after payday.  Bummer.  He also mentioned riboflavin (B2), which he says to take 400 mg/day.  These two things are supposed to be preventatives for migraines.  I want very much to try them both.

I do need to check to be sure of how closely or distantly feverfew is related to chamomile, though, because I'm definitely allergic to chamomile.  Chamomile will give me a migraine.  Chamomile doesn't really taste like much to me either.  I discovered this many years ago.  It has to do with ragweed allergies.  This applies to echinacea for me, too.  You know, basically the daisy family.  So, I need to see how closely feverfew is related to chamomile before I chance it.

But, the riboflavin makes sense to me.  I'm still training myself to take the supplements that I'm taking now without forgetting.  I probably needed supplements when I was growing up, but my parents didn't believe in natural anything or in supplements, especially supplements for kids.  I do, because of my own experiences growing up.  I wouldn't be surprised if I was deficient somehow anyway.

Selma

Thank you for your book suggestion.  I'll certainly look into it to see if it's even still in print and available anywhere here.  Can you tell me the name of the book, so I can look for it?

Consider scheduling an appointment with your PCP. Ask him (or her) to give you samples of migraine medications. I hope he/she has Relpax in stock... that was the only medication (non narcotic) that is able to wipe out my migraines.

I would so love to try accupuncture for my headaches.  And massage.  Right now, it's a financial issue with both.  I'm fortunate that I was already put on disability for the emotional stuff, so I don't have to fight for getting SS, because it's literally impossible for me to work with all of these physical issues.  From what I read on the health pages, it's pretty common to have the emotional component with CFS/FMS, too.  I literally don't have anything left for the rest of the month, so clearly things are too tight to even consider accupuncture and massage.  I've heard good things about accupuncture treatments, too.

P.S. ~ I agree with Selma too. Acupuncture used to work on my headaches (right after my mono diagnosis).... but the last time, it didn't work. It was weird because the last time I tried acupuncture for my headache... I could literally feel my body trying to fight off my migraine. It was wild !

"The trouble is that I don't know what I can do for any relief at the moment for the migraine behind my eyes."

I've had severe migraines... that usually went along with my period. I can't tell you how many times that I've had to leave work and get in to get treatment ASAP. If I didn't treat my migraine, it would last a week and by the end of the week, I would be vomiting.

There are only two things that resolve my headaches... massage therapy (sometimes two massages) and a relatively new medication called "Relpex".  Relpex is not a narcotic and it says that it is well tolerated (I have no problems taking it. It works right away ---- usually about 1/2 hour. Since this drug is new and there are no generic alternatives at this time... it is very expensive. My co-payment for only 9 pills (but normally 1 pills knocks out my headache completely) --- is $60.00. Of course on the other hand, it is much cheaper than massage therapy and much faster ! ; ^)

HI...have u tried accupunture?....or myotherapy...??

myotherapy is similar to accupunture except they do not use the needles...it is accupressure....they put pressure on the same points they put the needles and it helps relieve the pain.If ur r interested Bonnie Prudent put out a book in the late 70's and it works great on fibro pain...and no drug side effects!

Good luck
Godspeed
