Question

Is there any other good medications for Fibromyalgia besides Lyrca? It made me feel really bad, like I was drunk. One side of my head felt heavier than the other.I have been taking Tramadol for a while now and it seems to help some. But when I run out I feel 10 times worse.Like with drawl symptoms.I know Tramadol isnt a narcotic ,but it seems like one.Is there anything else I could ask my doctor about, that will help with out with drawls or drunkness?

I've never been put on anything but gabatenin (generic neurontin), but that's all I needed. I know it doesn't work like a charm for everyone, but it did for me! My Gma-in-law said it made her feel loopy too, but it didn't me. I have not noticed any side effects, and it has done nothing but helped me sleep better, give me more energy, less pain, and a clearer mind. My fibro still isn't perfect, and I do also take lortab 7.5  2x/day, which I pretty much need for other types of pain, trazadone for sleep which works just fine, and effexor for my depression and axienty, which are severe due to the effect the fibro has had on my life. The effexor seems to be the only anti-depressant that works for me for some reason, but it does work fantastic! Also, flexeril wasn't good for me either. I couldn't even tell I took it. I've felt like I needed a good muscle relaxer for all  my muscle stiffness, but the doctor says they can't prescribe soma in Alabama or he'd give me that. So I take lortab, which doesn't make sense to me. I can have lortab, but not soma???? Don't get it. BTW, I've also heard nothing but bad things about tramadol, including that it didn't even work well.  Anyway, hope you've found some relief by the time of this post!

Tramadol is considered a narcotic pain reliever. At least in canada it is. It is on the same rating scale as percocet or perkadan

Tramadol is a dangerous drug, in my opinion. I am on day 20 of no tram in my system and I am still suffering from withdrawl symptoms. Even though the dr tell us it is non-narcotic, it still has ALL of the addictive properties. It even has an antidepressant, in it, that also causes wd's. I was diagnosed in 1994 with fibro and I have been on just about everything known to man, from narcotics to Lyrica to muscle relaxants to injections. Nothing has seemed to work for me. I have to say getting off of the tramadol has been one of thee biggest hurdles, i've had to endure. I would certainly recommend NOT using tramadol, if at all possible. If you get the chance type in tramadol withdrawls and see the info provided. I just want to try and get the word out, because drs. do not seem to be aware of these issues. I hope this can help someone else from going down this path. Hang in there everyone. There must be great answers out there somewhere,

Some of you may be better off going to pain management or go to
http://www.fmaware.org/  sign up and find a new doctor in your state that treats fibromyalgia. If your doctor isn't listening to you, you have a right to fire him/her and find one that will. It's your health and your money.

My doctor lets me sample different medications in order to find a mix that works best with my body. That's the way it should be- especially with our disease. Everybody is so different and we respond so differently to medications. In addition, we all have varying co-occurring conditions. For example, I have osteoarthritis in my spine and shoulder as well as fibro, so I have to make sure my inflammation is handled too, so I need a medication for that, but another person may not. I do not have trouble with IBS, but others do. That's what makes this disease so troublesome. Anyhow, my point is find a GOOD doctor- that is one who will listen and work with you. ;)

Gosh, I wish one of my doctors would prescribe me something that actually helps. My Rheumy will only prescribe me Lyrica and keeps saying give it more time. She said she is not comfortable dispensing narcotics. Well lyrica makes me feel more messed up than any pain pills do... so I don't get it.

I wish they could give me a sleeping pill.. where do you'all live. Do you know of any doctors around Chicago that actually give a **** about ppl with FMS??

trazadone and tramadol is generic now.  I believe you can get both from Walmart for 4 bucks.  Just FYI.

I would think docs would prescribe trazadone 100 times before they would prescibe xanax.

Anyways, good luck in getting a new dr.

I wanted to tell both of you thank you for your answers.I have tried the flexeril before,it didn't really seem to help and it made me loopy too.The Ultram helps, but I feel so bad when I run out.Really bad.Since I don't have Ins,I sometime cant pay to see the doctor.Trazadone I have took that too,it really is a good sleeping med,but the doctors around here don't like writing it.I have also been givin Xanax for sleep, and another strong sleeping pill ,that I can not think of the name now for some reason. But they both made me feel yucky in the morning.I am just taking Benadryl at night to help sleep,I am taking like 5 though.More than I should ,but I am so tired and still cant sleep ,so I have to do something.I will be talking to another doctor soon I hope.thank you both once again for your answers..

Trazadone really helps with sleep without feeling loopy in the morning.  Getting help to ease sleep problems is important to let your body heal at night.  Elavil at bedtime used to always be the first med docs gave when first diagnosed FM.

Some antidepressants, (SSRI's) have proven to help some esp.prozac which may help with those that have low pressure.

I didn't try lyrica.  A couple of the side effects I have trouble with all ready so I passed on it.  I am on Savella.  It has really helped stopped the parathesia's I was having.  I haven't noticed any side effects.

I guess we need to know what problems are most concerning to you so we know what may be of help.

Hope it helps,
Karen

barbie I have taken Ultram, Ultracet, Effxor, Neurontin, Lyrica, Flexeril and pain meds. All had side effects or made me sick because of UC and IBS. Right now only doing 5mils of Fexeril at night,  20 mils of Tranxene 3 times daily and tylenol. Helping with sleep problems, eases pain just a bit and keeps me calm. Problem though is sleepy, loopy minded, and balance is bad. If you do not have stomach problems Flexeril might help you if you take several doses daily. Can cause sleepiness, loopy mind, and balance problems but not nearly as bad as Lyrica. Check with your dr and see. Best wishes you will feel better,
