Regarding My blood work

I just had my blood work reports
My b12 and D levels look good now
I have been on Savella for 3 months now
Doc had diagonised me with Fibromyalgia syndrome- chronic pain due to
immune deficiencys and stress
Now i can say i am 80% bettter
I still have muscle pain here and there
The only thing which bothers me is
Eleveated CRP levels and high platelet count
My doc dosent seem to find a reason for that
As all my blood work looks gr8
I have put on weight and have not got my MC for 2 months now
Is it poosible due to weight or irregular MC these levels can be on a higher side
I read somewhere that your weight can cause your CRP to be high
Pls answer
Niki

Savella works gr,except occassional burning sensation in legs and ACID REFLUX

ONE THING SURE HAS HELPED ME IS UNDERSTANDING AND EXCEPTING FIBRO AS A PART AND IT HAS GOT DOWN MY ANXIETY LEVEL

ARE THERE ANY OTHER TEST WHICH I NEED TO KNOW OR DO,
I HAVE SOME FOLLOW UP BLOOD WORK NEXT WEEK
ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR MY DR TO RUN ANY SPECIFIC TEST
I HAVE HAD THE BELOW TEST BEFORE

I started with CFIDS then FM diagnosis was added a few years later.

My platelets are always high.  Sometimes higher than others, and like plateletgal I do think that it is common in people with CFIDS/FM.

I just read a book "From Fatigued to Fantastic" written by Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D. He developed CFS while in Med school and had to drop out.  He got himself well enough to go back and since he has been working on it.  He says most doctors use the TSH when looking to see how the thyroid is doing its job.  Unfortunately, the TSH test is unreliable in fibro.  It's important to check a free T4 because in those with FM may have altered conversion of  of T4 to T3.  So you may have low thyroid function and still have a "normal" TSH.

CRP - is a test that is nonspecific.  Its a measure of C Reactive Protein.  If it is elevated it means that you have an acute infection or inflammation somewhere in the body.  But being nonspecific, you can't say where.  It can be from an auto-immune conditions like lupus or rheum. arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and can be a predictor of heart attack/stroke risk.  ESR measures inflammation also, but the CRP will go done faster when the inflammation/infection is treated.  You may want to get an ESR and see what it is and an ANA with titers to see if there is an autoimmune thing going on.

I'm on Savella too.  It has done wonders with the zap and sting pain.

Hope things start looking up,
Karen

I have fibromyalgia and have for 15 years.  Just because your thyroid tests come back normal you need to look at any information you can find on signs of under active or over active thryroid.  Hair loss, dry hair, nails etc.  I met a doctor years ago, he healed his wife by putting her on a low dose of thyroid medication, she suffered with FM.  I've taken a low dose of Levoxyl for several years. Without it my pain and fatigue is unmanageable.  FM people tend to have low b12, I get b12 shots and take vitamin D3000.  Also look at the foods you eat.  Bread, white flour, white potatoes, rice, simple sugars, pasta all affect my pain and the doctor I mentioned is the one that made me aware of this. There is a book "Life Without Bread" I don't remember the author but this book changed how I view food. I realized things like nuts, cheese, wine, coffee at times were so adversely affecting me.  I stopped some foods altogether and others I have occasionally.  Everyone is so different but do look at what you eat and drink.  If you drink soda stop. If you drink anything with asparteme (not sure about spelling) stop asap.  It's the worst for FM.  So no artificial sweeteners. That's what gives you headaches and pain.
If you let me know what CRP and MC is I'm sure I will know I just can't remember at the moment.
I'm not familiar with Savella. How does it work? Cymbalta works well for FM, so does Topamax. And again a low dose thyroid medication. I take Levoxyl. I also use a MSM Cream, it's the best.  It's called Nutra, Skin, Joint&Face Cream. It's excellent for pain, skin problems, burns.  I've never used anything that takes my pain away instantly. You do need to re-apply it but it works.  You can go online to look for it.
Take care and email me if I can help.

I had posted a question to Prof. Garth Nicolson in regards to my own platelet count and hypercoagulation problems found in many patients who have immune disorders, including CFS :

Look through your labwork. Do you have any results for TSH, FT4 or FT3? If so, post them here or go to the thyroid forum. Have you had any thyroid ultrasounds, thyroid antibody tests to rule out thyroid?

Docs tried to pin Shingles on me. Then Fibro. I knew it had to be something else. Did the research as to why my vitamin D and B12 would drop despite the fact that I live in the land of sunshine!

I have Hashimoto's Auto-Immune thryoiditis. I have the throat inflammation (really antibodies attacking my thyroid), joint pain, weight gain, sinus, recurring infections, joint pain, headaches, heartburn, GERD, constipation, muscle pain, weakened legs, serious menstrual issues, weakened immunity due to my auto-immune disease.

I suggest you rule out Hashimoto's with the TGab and TPOab blood tests, get a thyroid ultrasound to see what is making your inflammation, as well as rule out other auto-immune diseases.

When platlet count is too high, you need to rule out bleeding, cigarette smoking, excess production by the bone marrow, strenuous activity, myeloproliferative disorders, infections, inflammation and cancers.

When CRP is too high, you need to rule out inflammation in response to infection, vascular disease, heart attacks or strokes.

I wouldn't think the lack of a menstral cycle would make these labs be off, but you might have something like PID which is causing all three symptoms.

Keep us posted on this.

God bless
