Swine Flu Vaccination?

If they produce a vaccination in May for the Swine Flu, would you receive it?  What would be the factors in your decision?

My sentiments exactly........I don't even get regular flu shots knowing my body will not be able to tolerate it.  Best thing to do? have every healthy ones in your household take the vaccines.   Good idea?  chuckles.

"No one can deny, there have been problems with vaccines along the way."

Agreed. Look at all of the problems the new Gardisil vaccine has caused ! It has been banned in Spain and yet here they are promoting it here in the U.S.

I forgot that back in 1976 there were some deaths from the vaccine and a number of GBS cases. Twenty- five people died. What I was trying to recall is why the vaccine would not be released until the federal government took responsibility. It was because the pharmaceutical companies were so rushed that they didn't have time to run clinical trials or other testing. Sad thing is, the epidemic never happened. Still, I do not find what happened to be acceptable.

Most likely, if they begin producing the vaccine they will be using recombinant technology and it will be much safer. No one can deny, there have been problems with vaccines along the way. There has been great impovement also. I don't know if at this time it is even possible to produce a vaccine, or any drug for that matter, and guarentee 100% effectiveness, 100% safety for 100% of the people. There might not be anything available out there, not even asprin.

It is not only the elderly, in fact it refers to people over 50 yrs. that should get flu shots. Also, those with lung problems and chronic illnesses such as diabetes or kidney disease. Include too the very young and also anyone that is around the forementioned.

Yes, we all have that option.  It wasn't my intent to challenge anyone wanting to receive the shot.  You had indicated in your previous post that you had not heard of anyone dying from the vaccinations, and that is what I was responding to above.

I can certainly understand one whom is concerned and not wanting to risk complications from the flu, therefore receiving the flu vaccination.  For the elderly who are more proned to pneumonia it could be a greater risk to become ill with that, so it may prompt them to seek the flu vaccination due to that risk.

I do understand that with any vaccine, there is a risk. There is a risk also that you can come down with the disease. There is also a chance that even if you take the vaccine, you still can come down with the flu. A few years back, I took the shot and still became ill because it was another strain. My husband and I were sick as dogs that year and sat up to sleep for nights. I'm not saying there isn't truth to what you are saying, I don't want to risk getting the flu if I can prevent it. Many more people die from complications of the flu than do from the injection. I wish there weren't any deaths or serious side effects from this or any other drugs on the market. I understand that I'm probably one of the few saying they'll take the shot, but we each have our own choice and reasons. If you can't take it or don't want to take it, then that is your option.

They did have one death in Texas (outside of the young child) from this current flu.  A mother in her 30's.  They claimed she had a preexisting illness, but they failed to say what it was in the news.

That is quite interesting and I agree with her comments regarding vaccination of a child who already has poor immune response.

Caroline - In the above comments from Dr. Mercola, in 1976 when they dispensed the vaccination for the coming Swine Flu panademic (that didn't occur), 25 people did die.  Others were left crippled or diseased.

There are studies being conducted now that may trace the AIDS virus back to polio vaccinations that began in the 50's.  Even after is was discovered that a medication taken by hemophiliacs was tainted with the AIDS virus, it continued to be distributed.  Immunization may prevent certain disease, but in someone who is already immune compromised, it can cause disasterous results.

Something I ran across and thought I would share:

"Research shows that vaccines can induce autoimmune disorders. Tetanus toxoid, influenza vaccines, polio vaccine, and hepatitis B vaccine have been related to phenomena ranging from autoimmune antibody production to creating full-blown illnesses, such as rheumatoid arthritis and Kawasaki’s disease. (REF: J Autoimmun. 2000 Feb;14(1):1-10) (REF: J Autoimmun. 1996 Dec;9(6):699-703)."

I don't do well with vaccines either.  I would not take it or any other vaccine myself.

Of course. Even though I had a mild temporary flu after the first swine flu vaccine, I would still take it. I remember there was some contraversy over that particular vaccine back then (I forget exactly what it was) but distribution was held back until the government took on the responsibility. Still, I haven't heard of anyone dying from the vaccine, maybe some of you have, I don't know. It surely won't be available for a while yet, I'm guessing fall.

I voted for taking the vaccine, but I understand both sides. I recently got another vaccination and I didn't notice any decline of my normal symptoms and figured that if I do get ill, it could be much worse in my current condition.

I cannot tolerate vaccinations and I know that many people with CFS have the same problem as I do. In addition to that, multiple vaccinations are not good for your immune system and may result in a chronic illness.

In an article entitled "Swine Flu Pandemic: Fact or Fiction?", Dr. Mercola discusses the effects of the Vaccine created for the Swine Flu epidemic in 1976.

He says, in part: "Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths.  However, several hundred people developed crippling Guillain-Barré Syndrome after they were injected with the swine flu vaccine. Even healthy 20-year-olds ended up as paraplegics. Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths."

Here's the link for the entire article, which causes me to give a resounding "NO" to having the vaccine myself.  I've never had a flu vaccine, and never will.

I also voted no. My immune system is also shot so why take a chance? I live in the Houston area and as of this morning, 3 schools in Houston have now shut down because of kids being sick with Swine Flu. I bought my grandson a bottle of hand sanitizer and told him to use it.

Interesting what Dr. Mercola has to say on Swine flu and if a vaccination were available, should we get one. I'm happy that he has written about the numerous dangers (and ineffectiveness) of flu vaccines.

I'm not to sure about vaccines.  They seem kinda iffy to me and I think that if you take precautions you should be okay.  Apparently it travels just like the flu so I'm just going to sanitize, sanitize, sanitize.

I would have to decline.  I had the 70's swine flu vaccination (when there was a lot of hype about it)...it resulted in several deaths and others coming down with GBS.  Ironically, this was about the same time I began having fibrocitis and balance disorders.

With my immune system being what it is today, I would be afraid to submit to something that hasn't been out and well tested beforehand.
