EMG test

Hi I've just been diagnosed with FM though suffered for a long time.

I have to go for an EMG this evening and I'm so nervous, could anyone advise me whether it's ok to take a valium before I go or will this affect any results?

Many thanks

Glad to hear it all went well.  Hope your results come back fine.

I can relate to no life other than going to the docs.  I feel that's about most of my events in life...I know it's taken up much of it.

Hope you feel better soon and please keep in touch to let us know how things are going.

Take care of yourself.

Hi, thanks for that, it is now over and went ok though not very pleasant...I didn't take the valium beforehand so I managed to be brave! I felt very light headed after the procedure and sore where the needles were inserted but apart from that ok.

Just have to wait for results now but I know there's no magic cure for the fibromyalgia and it just seems to be getting worse by the day right now. The fatigue and dizziness is unpleasant right now, I don't seem to have a life other than going out to doctors appointments!

Thanks for your message, best wishes to you.

I hope the exam is now over and that it went well enough for you.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

I only need arms I think,...as I've also multiple cervical disc prolapse.  I've looked around the web for advice re taking some kind of 'pre-med' but can't find anything.  I should've asked the rheumatologist at the time, but it's all happened too fast!

I don't like needles at all (even though I was once a nurse I've injected plenty of others!)

Anyway thanks for your reply :-)

I really don't know the answer to your question.  I have had two EMG's done on me, and had only a minor issue the 2nd time.

Do you need it on all 4 limbs?  Sometimes, they only need to do one arm and/or one leg, which shortens the exam time by quite a bit.
