What is the best kind of Dr. to handle FMA? Need advice soon.

I need to know what kind of doctor is best to handle the issues with FMA. You know an Internal Med; Neurologist; Rheum?: etc.?????

My Internal Doctor informed me today that my condition or needs are outside the realm of her practice or capacity and she will no longer be able to treat me. Basically her practice is too small to handle me. (Really kinda hurt my feelings because they reff'd to me calling a few times with questions, and so on.) She went as far as to say I need to find a new doctor all together- as if she wouldn't see me for anything. (I might be being a little sensitive today, this could be normal.)

Anyway, what kind of doctor do you see? Do you have multiple doctors? What kind of doctor do you suggest? Should I keep a general MD also- just have he informed of what is going on? Do I have a pain management doctor on the side or would the doctor I get be in control of my pain management??? I'm soooo lost. Please help!!!

Thanks in advance for any ideas, input or advice- IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

"From my experience, it really doesn't matter who you see, but how knowledgeable the doctor is."

Well said !!! And I heard recently that some rheumatologists are whining about seeing fibro patients. They think neurologists should be seeing them instead, because fibro involves the nervous system.

To be honest with you, what bothers me is that many fibromyalgia patients are just being prescribed DRUGS that really don't seem to work on a lot of people and some of these drugs have terrible side effects. But I read the research by the experts and they recommend different therapies and most of it involves supplements and other medications.

Co-Cure is a great site. I have also listed their link on my website under "physicians/centers". I also have a link for treatments recommended by the experts so that people can review the information and make an informed decision about their health, with their physician.

I have ME/CFS and FMS,Addidson Disease and Hypothyroidism, besides cardiomyalpathy.  I'm under the care of a well informed internist ........he'd send me for specific tests, etc and specialist if it need be.

From my experience, it really doesn't matter who you see, but how knowledgeable the doctor is.  Calling his office and ask questions like, whether he treats FMS patients would be a good start.

PateletGal's site has a good link on doctors.  So, is Co-Cure.

For fibromyalgia you want to keep a family doctor for sore throats and cold etc. but see a Rheumatologist for the Fibro.  I have found Cellebrex helps a lot.  I didn;t knwo how much it was doing until I missed two days of it and I was in unbareable pain.  There is also a new drug called Lyrica although I have not tried it.  Has your doctor checked your ANA?
