Yes, a car accident can absolutely cause FM.  Also can a a severe emotional trauma.  I was in a fatal car accident in which my Mom died....I was driving the car.  The accident and the trauma brought on FM.  The straw the broke the camel's back was when I fell about a year after the accident and had a severe shoulder injury.  Within five months I couldn't get out of bed.  That was in 1995 and my life has never been the same.  I lost it really.  I'm just surviving day to day.  I take morphine, etc.  I am going to start Cymbalta on Friday and I pray to God it helps.  Don't give up hope.  That's what keep me going along with family.  I hope and pray you get the help the support you need. '''OMG''' Babes.....I cant believe wat uve gone through! I'd of died with all that, I think ur really brave and all blessings should go to u, I do hope the worst is over now for u:)
It sounds like its pretty hard to find a FM support group thats still running, never mind i'll just keep trying and trying and trying until i find one! Dont mention dieting, Im loosing weight but not with dieting, i think its stress related with all the agonizing pain, the feeling of exhaustion all the time, the depression, the fibrofog, and not forgetting the pee peeing in my knickers trying to get to the toilet without being in anymore excruciating pain than im already in, life *****. Im only 46 and i feel like im about 90, they should call this condition 'The Invisable Illness'! lol
Hope you recover quickly and the Fibro isnt too harsh on you. Thanku soo much for answering my post, much appreciated and good luck with your topic. Jax

Yes I go to a FM support group. It was founded by a wonderful lady named Jan Chambers and she founded the northern region fm support group and is fighting to get funding for more research of which I believe has passed.

I geuss I have been blessed. I had my tender pt test bout 5 yrs ago and scored 16/18 pts. Was suprised to hear I had FM. I had only briefly heard the name b4 and in my ignorance, thought it to be an "old age ailment" lol. Back and neck pain are common with FM patients and I had an awful mri that showed severe spondlylolisthesis with no disc left at l5/s1 whiched helped cause severe bilateral foraminal stenosis with signifigant bilateral root nerve compression. It was hard to determine if my pain was all due to that or also FM. My pain management dr said becuz I have FM, that the pain would be worse for me then sumone without this disorder. I underwent 29 days ago a l5/s1 fusion with instrumentation. I'm doin ok all hings considering. I believe I have more of the secondary symptoms which are: dry mouth, skin, eyes, and constant peeing. My only major pain that might be related to FM would be these debilitating head/neck aches I get. But to hear of most ppl's widespread pain that is debilitating and horrid, u all have my sympathy and ur all in my thoughts!!!! I am at most (besides neck/headaches) just tender feeling so I feel truly blessed. I wish u all the best and will bump a topic I wrote that I think may help reduce ur pain levels. Greatest blessings to u all!!!

Hi,

Yes a car accident may cause this. I have post-traumatic Fibromyalgia from a severe car accident. It was 1 1/2 years before they diagnosed it. I hope you will go see a rheumatologist to and get their opinion. Try and get exercise even if you are in pain as in the long run you will feel better. I was relieved to have a diagnosis as I felt so horrible but no other reason was found. I cope with it fairly well now. I keep my weight down to the best of my ability as extra weight hurts my muscles.
Try and get some info on Adrenal Fatigue as this plays into the pain as well.

All the best :)

Hi Babes & thanku for your reply.
i have had 2 different mri scans on my spine from 2 differnt drs on my spine which shows no damage there , i have been diagnoised with fibromyalgia. I was so bubble & active before the accident but since, it as changed my life dramaticly. ive been examined everywhere & been everywhere & the end result is Fibromyalgia.
Thanks again for your comments babes, really appreciate them.

Trauma can cause FM but I would rule out other possibilities as well. Get mri's of ur whole back to see if sum of ur problems srem from spinal issues. Also, get several opinions from different drs. Best of luck to u hun!!!! *hugs*
