It took me 1 1/2 years to get approved and it was alot of work. You have to have a doctor who will support the dissability and a lawyer is best. I understand that you have to continually be treated and revaluate you every few years. Sorry for the spelling.
how old are you if you dont mind me asking?
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after several years of pain and symptoms. I applied for SSDI and after 3 months was approved. I am no longer able to work due to the fibro. I'm not sure if this information helps, I hope it does.
Totie is correct.
Every state is different. Going on disability isn't always a permanent thing. You have to continually "prove" that you are ill and need that assistance. They will continue to pay you as long as you need, whether that is 1-2 years, or the rest of your life.
Unfortunately because you're young the monthly amount may not be an awesome, or livable number... so if they give you the okay to work, then I would certainly do it. Think of them as your principal in school. Do what they tell you, because you don't want to go to their office.
I know this may not be helpful enough, but their website is super easy, and they pretty much hold your hand through the application. But there are a TON of great forums from real experts all over the web. Use google... its how I got my answers.
Here's the Dis website if you'd like it: http://www.ssa.gov/pgm/disability.htm
I think SS is based on how long you have worked.
Disability would be different. Look into the rules for your state, some are different.
If you can only work part time, then do it. I had a co-workers daughter who was 25 at the time try to get it for FM, she of course was denied. She was basically told, we all have good & bad days.
would i only get dis. worth the amount i've paid since ive been working? im only 24 so i can imagine it wont be too heck of alot. so does that mean i'd only be able to collect until i reach the amount of soc. sec. i've put in?
but will i be able to be on it for the rest of my life? doesn't it run out after a year??
Hi Samantha,
You can apply for dis... but just know that its a long process. It typically takes 6 months or so. As far as working... they determine that. Both my father and I are on Dis, and he works part time. I cannot work. His schedule, is based on income though. He can only make X amount of dollars before he loses Dis. I would start applying now and just be patient. Its a battle to get approved, but it can be a real life saver financially!
how long can you continue to work part time while receiving part time un-employment? like if i wanted to do that for the rest of my life due to fibromyalgia, would that be possible?
so you mean you work, and get disability? or do you work part time?
