fentanal patches side effects?
Hi All
just a quick question i have been on fentanal patches for over a yr now up to 100 i heard its 80 times stronger then morphine though is a type of morphine, it really works for me i would still be bedridden if not for it.
my question has anyone had a drop in appetite? i had a little but recently last 6mths it has got so bad i can easily go all day and night and not eat and although its been great for losing weight a stone so far it is having effect on me as i am getting run down i changed my diet a while ago and used to eat tons of fruit and balanced it out now i cant face much at all i do try and eat fruit in fact thats all i live on some days, i have been buying those protein drinks to make sure i get the right vit etc

You made me remember, skittles were my candy of choice. Yep it's the patch. I couldn't handle it.

I thought I was just being weird with my sweet cravings! In fact I'm lying here eating
Skittles one at a time to make them last longer. I too have had no appetite and until my daughter moved in my diet pretty much consisted of Paydays, I figured at least I was getting a little protein, bananas, cottage cheese mixed with pineapple tid bits and occasionally a proteing shake and of course my daily diet coke-my coffee. There have been a few things she has made if it has a real stong smell it bothers me. She has figured out if she makes soup of some sort I will eat about 1/2 cup with some cheese and crackers. Its hard because I know our diets have a lot to do with how we feel but I'm not one who can force myself to eat something that doesn't smell good to me. Luckily I have only lost maybe 5lbs. It is interesting though how what helps one person is horrible for the next, it is really a trial and error process for all of us.

Talk to your doctor about Neurtontin for the right leg impingement. It too has it's side effects and tell the doctor you don't want to be on a high dose and you do not want to take it daily. I take it as needed when the nerve pain and what you are describing is nerve pain take it when that pain is bad. Also Methocarbonal is something I take as needed for that deep ache. Neurontin is good for that nerve pain though.
ON the patch I was a mess. So please do monitor it. It is a blessing in some cases because it does help with pain. But it changed my life, I wasn't me anymore and that wasn't good enough for me. I was willing to deal with a little pain in order to have my personality back. I didn't want to leave my bed or home when I was on it. I was so thin, which I've never been very thin. People would say I looked great but I felt horrible. I was in a size 8-10 jean. I was always a 10-12 so it was thin for me. I never ate, only sweets. I would have my son buy me some sort of candy, it was all I wanted. I also had the strangest sense of smell and I could smell the medication from the patch internally.
So here is what I take:
oxycontin 40mg 1 in the morning, 1 in the evening
percocet for breakthrough pain 1-3 day. Some days pain is worse.
Levoxyl/thyroid - helps so much with FM pain
Cymbalta - helps so much with FM pain
Trazadone 50mg - at bedtime for sleep
ativan - as needed for anxiety and muscle tension 1-3 per week
Topamax - for migraines
Supplement: iodine,
enzyme, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 shot monthly-for FM
Supplement for immune system when I'm not feeling well: Grapefruit Seed Extract, Astragalus, CQ10, Fish Oil, gargle with Tea Tree Oil
I can't stress enough the right combination of medication uk. Taking a thyroid medication and Cymbalta helps lessen the need for so much narcotics. Both medications help with pain. Cymbalta is also for depression but helps FM pain. I notice such a difference in my pain levels when I miss either medication. Also iodine supplements and B12 shots have helped me so much.
Another thing I cannot live without and would help your right leg pain is "Nutra Skin & Joint Ultra Relief MSM Cream." You can order it from VitaminLife.com. It is amazing. I have recommended to about 20 people and have made many friends as a result. It works!
I can't say it heals you but when I put it on my legs, feet or hands where I feel my arthritis or nerve pain is so bad I can honestly tell you I think it's healing it some how. I need less and less of the the cream. It is also for burns or any skin irritations. If you can, please try it especially for your right leg.

HI I KNEW IT WAS THIS THAT WAS CAUSING MY WEIGHT LOST I HAVE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES ON REQUIP,LYRICA HAD A PSYCOTIC EPISODE AWFUL AND HAD TO STOP THOSE DRUGS IMMEDITLY COMPLETELY FREAKED ME OUT FOR MTHS AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE APPEATITE SUPPRESSED IT DOESNT EFFECT ANY OTHER PART OF ME SO I WILL MONITER IT. WHAT ARE THE OTHER DRUGS YOU TAKE? I SURE COULD DOWITH TAKING SOMETHING EXTRA WHEN I GET THE AWFUL NERVE IMPINGEMENT I AM GETTING NOW DOWN MY RIGHT LEG.
I lost 25 pounds on this patch. I was thrilled to lose weight however it was not a good feeling. I was so ill, I couldn't eat, I developed this other issue. Anything I would smell would make me vomit. I mean anything. I would walk in to the kitchen in the morning and if the kitchen drain smelled remotely sour in any way I'd run to the bathroom and throw up. I was so irritable all the time. All I could do was stay in bed. I realized these were all side effects of this patch. The side effects of the patch so adversely effected my life I decided to take it off one night. I went through a detox like you'd never imagine. I had hallucinations, vomitting etc. I had no idea what I had done. I put the patch back on, and weened myself off of it over the next two weeks. I just couldn't live that way. I know how much it helps and would never tell anyone not to use. I may need it in the future. But it was an awful experience for me. I changed as a person.
My pain is now managed and I am up and around with oxycontin, percocet, methocarbonal, ativan, trazadone. I only take methocarbonal and ativan when it's real bad.
