I think it's great that you stay away from bleached white flour! Even people that are "healthy" should run away from it, that is if they would like to stay healthy! You should also look into using evaporated cain sugar instead plain white sugar, it helped me alot. I only use that and whole wheat flour.

Hi. It does sound like it but unfortunately fibromyalgia can mimic a lot of things. I would not like to think at 20 you have FMS. I have had it since 1992, my early 30's and that was hard.  I had two young children, a great career and my still wonderful husband. I was suffering in so much pain and didn't know why. A good family doctor can pretty much diagnosis it then getting with a rheumatologist would be great. They can rule out other things like lupus, lyme disease, ms.
The hard thing about this day in age is stress and foods. So much of what we eat today affects our bodies.  Foods cause pain and can cause symptoms like fibromyalgia and arthritis.  What I have found over the last 15 years is that eliminating certain foods like white flour so white bread, cakes, cookies, anything with high fructose syrup, white potatoes, white rice have helped me so much.  I also drink about 98 ounces of water a day.
I also get headaches.  So I've eliminated nuts, cheese, soda, alcohol.  It has helped so much preventing the headaches.
I was glad to see you take supplements.  There are some great options out there.  My hope for you is that you not get stuck with a label like fibromyalgia. It is a very real problem and I am sure I have it.  And my 20 year old son has the symptoms of it and has had them since he was about 15.  We work with his immune system, he's also eliminated certain foods especially fast foods, drinks a lot of water. We never say he has fibromyalgia. I just don't want him walking around at this early stage in his life thinking he is sick.  So do explore a diagnosis, pain is so difficult but try to stay involved with your prognosis.  Stick with natural products as much as traditional medicine.  And always know your body.  If something a doctor prescribes doesn't seem right for you question, question, question.  Medicine is a science and it's a science that is not exact and that really applies when it comes to fibromyalgia.

I take all sorts of stuff :( i think most have to though. I stay away from the anti deppresants because most of them cause fatigue, so do the antiepeileptics. I take tramadol, 4 50 mg a day, b,d, and vitamins, drink lots of water and stay away from caffiene past 12pm if i can help it. I eat a whole foods diet, this basicly means that I stay away from anything with artificial flavoring. If you can find a whole foods grocer shop there because it takes all the guess work out of it for you. I also do yoga since this is something that you can do even when your tired and it helps with muscle tension and pain.

When i wasn't taking tramadol i was taking a supplement called 5htp which helped alot with fatigue, just not so much with the pain. It's a natural serotonin compound from a plant called grifferonias of something like that. Melatonin before bed helps also, but not if your going to try 5htp and not if your already on anti depressents, mixing them can cause serotonin syndrome.

what meds are you currently taking? what have you tried in the past? I have tons of experience with this so I could probably help give you some ideas about meds to talk to your dr about. I think the biggest issue is that meds will only work for so long, there efficacy starts decline after a year or so and we have to change them. the best thing to do is to stay away from exitotoxins. google it if you don't know what they are. avioding them is challenging since they are in most of the foods that we eat, hence the whole foods diet.

Good luck with everything, I know how hard it is to live with these two diseases, it seems so cruel that they generally go hand in hand.

Fibrocentric,

Are there any specific things you have added or taken from your diet that you think made the biggist  impact on your FM and CFS symptoms? Do you take any vitamins, herbs, etc...? I was diagnosed with FM and CFS  3 years ago too. I have pretty severe symptoms. I have tried lots and lots of STUFF! LOL.. Im doing pretty decent with my mix of meds and supplements right now but I would really LOVE to find some energy. My pain consumed my life for over 2 years but I am on pain meds now that help fairly well, considering.... Anyway, if I could get a handle on this draining fatigue, I might could do something.. I need more exercise but this fatigue is overwhelming. I am always happy to hear new ideas..

Mcat-- It could certainly be fibro but it could also be several other things. You need to be tested for both types of arthritis, LUPUS, LYME, etc..Have you had an MRI and xrays on your back? Also need the tender point test to diagnose FM. Diagnosing FM can be a long process. I am sorry you are hurting so bad. Its just a miserable place to be in. I have bouts of serious back pain and its no fun. Back problems can also affect your hips and legs.

Good luck to you both! Hope tomorrow is a low pain day for ya!

Hi :)

I just signed up for this forum so I could answer you! Don't you feel special?  Anyway.  I was diagnosed with fibro and cfs about three years ago but had been going through the chronic pain and fatigue since my first pregnancy.  It can be very difficult to get a doc to take you seriously when it comes to non specific pain.  A lot of docs still don't think fibro is a valid medical consition and I have actualy had a dr take me off meds that another dr in the practice had perscribed due to the fact that he didn't believe in my condition.

Anyway, my advice is search the net in your area for a fibro friendly dr and get an appt. barring that, if you are in really bad pain utilize the er. the worst thing they will do is send you away with no relief.

I have spent years trying all sorts of different ways to manage my pain. Initialy when it started becoming a problem I would just have occasional flare ups. About a year ago i was in the hospital with bacterial meningitis and since then have just ner really recovered (pain wise). My current dr has me on 50 mg tramadol 4x a day. it works well for me. I also keep myself on a whole foods diet and restrict my meat intake. I can not stress how much your daily diet will affect your over all well being if you have fibro!!! But that is rant for another day.

Have you tried bengay on your tender points? Are you taking motrin or tylenol? Warm showers? Yoga? (it's awesome!)

If you have any questions please ask!!!
