menieres disease and fibro

uk2
HI All

I have been dx with for 2 years with fibro, i have been suffering with rining in the ears and hearing lost for 3-4 years and in the last year i have had pressure on in my ear like a painfull popping like when you take off in a airoplane, also inoise is so painful to my ears and i have 3 young children who i am bringing up on my own also i have been having sudden attacks of vertigo (sickness like spinning ) this one has been the worst and dispite medication is still going on a week i can now walk around a little but its still bad.

I've had a ct scan and my sinuses are inpacted i was due to go bac in August last year but my fibro was so bad i couldnt go so has been refered to the 2nd of feb and an ENG for the 31st of march which is a balance test.

The Dr is sure its menieres disease and ewhen i saw the ENT last he hinted it could be this.

The worry i have is the hearing test last time showed a real drop in my hearing and since then i noticed a difference and the ringing in my ears is worst in a bout but seems to be increasing and staying after every bout.

The fibro keeps me disabled as it is i cant walk far and use a wheelchair i've just applied for an adapted mobilty car i'm worried with the vertigo that i will be signed off driving and i'll be even more isolated as i've only just sarted agin.

Does anyone else have fibro and menieres disease, do you think there right or could it be fibro but i know fibro does not cause menieres disease, i' scarred i'm going to end up deaf as well as this criippling fibro.

Any advise??

sam

Hello.  I too have been diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, Fibromyalgia, Myfascial Pain Disorder, and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. In addition, I also have been diagnosed with IBS and TMDJ.
It has been a hard row to hoe.  I first became inflicted with Fibro when I was 22 years old.  I came down with a terrible Viral infection and I thought that I had the flu.  Problem is that I never fully recovered.  I went to GP to GP (I was born and raised in the Ozark Mountains and medical care back then in the Ozarks was horrific.  Specialists were no where to be found so I bounced around between GPs and they all told me that there was nothing wrong with me and it was all in my head.  Finally, I loaded up and went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. There I was told that I had a very early stage of Chron's Disease and patted on the back with a prescription of Belladonna Spacetabs and a huge bottle of Darvocet and sent home.  Two years later I had a flare and this time I went to the University of Arkansas and they told me that I did not have Chron's that I had IBS.  I gave up on Doctors for years until I couldn't stand it any longer.  In around 30 years, I began having terrible balance problems and vertigo.  Was diagnosed with Meniere's. After around 35 years, I finally was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Disorder by a very brilliant and understanding Rheumatologist.  I suspect that I do not actually have Meniere's and that my balance problems were all part of my Fibromyalgia.

I have fibro and found that hatha yoga has been the only thing that has really impacted me positively without any negative side effects, but after a car accident, I'm just getting back to being able to do yoga regularly. I also have just been dx w/ Meniere's, so all this is very overwhelming for me. I have also had many issues w/ painful periods in the past and digestion issues (resulting in horrible acne), but have been taking oil of oregano and turmeric, which are helping with some of the digestion/face stuff, while helping my body function more efficiently. I understand that there are some treatments that are nonchemical, which I'm more inclined to try, since the last time I let doctors drug me, they nearly killed me. I know it's hard to keep trying and keep fighting, but you can't give up. You have to remember that the alternative is darker than where you are now... Letting go should never be an option. Nothing is set in stone. Best wishes.

Hi - You're quite welcome.  Yes there are a lot of symptoms that seem to come with the dx.

We did a poll not long ago and discovered that many women with an FMS dx also had endometrosis and fibroids.  I'm not sure of the connection there, but found it interesting.

Take care of yourself.

Hi,

Thanks for your advise, i sure hope they can sort it out as its bad enough with the fibro been on a real journey with that and on fentannel patches 100, 50 sertrailine, clonazapam, and requip a parkinson medicine. And now the medication for the vertigo!!

I find alot of things tag along with fibro like IBS and period problems( i've got fibroids) and now these ear problems it really is a ever changing disorder that ruins your life and people just dont realise that.

Thanks for your prayersd means alot to me.

God Bless sam

oops...I wanted to add that while FMS may not cause it, there seems to be many with FMS/CFS who do have the same problems.  So it appears to be something that tags along somehow.

Good luck to you Sam.

This article does state that the hearing loss can come and go.  As you could see from the poll, most here have some type of ringing, vertigo and balance disorders.  I don't think FMS is the cause, as there are those who have Meniere without FMS.

I hope they can give you more answers when you go in for your testing.  There are treatments that can help you with your vertigo and appliances for hearing.  I'll keep you in my prayers.  Please let us know how it goes.  Best wishes.
