my pcp would like to send me to a pain management dr.  Has anyone else tried this and has it worked?  I'm at the end of my rope with the constant pain

Hi Katie,

I totally agree with angel44240 , see a Rhuematologist first. Pain meds don't usually work for Fibro but there are other meds that can help ease some of the pain without the addicting qualities of narcotics. Cymbalta for one. It won't hurt you to see a reputable PM Dr. as well. Be very wary of any doctor who only shoves pills at the problem. Best of luck to you.

That is what we call my little sister- Katie-did! LOL.. too cute! hehe..

I am currently going to a really good Rheumatologist and he is taking care of the pain right now. They performed alot of tests/bloodwork to see if I indeed have Lupus or not, because it is so tricky and so underdiagnosed, that he ordered many more tests that are not performed by other doctors, that will indeed tell him and me if I do have it..

I definitely have Fibro and CFIDS though.. no doubt.. Pain Management is so overrated these days.. with pain centers, that is.. I believe that only a doctor who is very familiar with Fibro and CFIDS is able to take care of the pain and know exactly what to do.. A Rheumatologist will know more even.. do you have a Rhema doc?

I have seen a pain mgmt dr. I also have SI joint dysfunction, disc degenerative disease, bulging discs among other stuff. I saw him for those as well as the FM. They can give you trigger-point injections. Basically a steriod mixed with a numbing med. Give it a try. If it works great. If not, at least you know.

I did see a pain doc. for nerve damage, but not to be treated for FMS.

If you are in that much pain each day, then it would probably be of benefit to you.  They can give trigger-point injections, nerve blocks and other treatments that you would not get elsewhere.  Again, this works for some and not for others.  I think it's definitely worth the try.

Hope you are pain free soon.
