why is fibromyalgia and hip bursitis so related

I have had fibromyalgia for 15 years and hip bursitis for 5 years. the more research I do the more I see how related they are. I am to the point after various therapies to consider using a walker at 55 years old. It is difficult for me to walk and to climb stairs. I use to be very active. Is there any research indicating why these two are so synonymous?

I'm not really sure how they're are related, but I do have fibromyalgia and hip bursitis in both hips. I had surgery on one of my hips for the bursitis and a tear in my hip and let me tell you it did not help my bursitis at all, it helped the tear but that was about it. The doctor didn't order me physical therapy after my surgery and made my bursitis worse!! (he was to lazy to call my insurance), he is not my doctor anymore!! so if you're thinking about surgery don't do it unless you're for sure you're going to do the physical therapy or your doctor is going to order it for you!!! I know how painful fibromyalgia and hip bursitis can be, I hope that you find comfort in your pain soon!!!

Do you mind if I ask what surgery you had? I have bursitis in the hip and a tear in the labrum. I may be going for a tenetomy in the left hip, on the tendon next to the tronchanteric bursa. Is that by chance what you had?

So according to my Pain Dr & my P.T., the bursitis is an inflammation of the joint, while the fibro causes trigger points in your muscles to be inflamed. They said in order to relieve the bursitis, you must relieve the trigger points from being activated. They suggest doing trigger point injections with a steroid for the pain in the joints, and dry needling for the trigger points in the muscles due to fibro. Then you can start the healing process. Otherwise, one will just reactivate the other, hence a viscous circle.

That's not exactly true. The bursa is isn't a joint, it's a little "balloon" and it can be injected. I just had one of the bursae in my left hip injected that was irritated. However, joints have more than bursa. My left hip has another bursa, the one linked to trochanteric bursitis, and injections haven't helped that one, nor PT. I am considering another procedure.

I  have had fibromyalgia for years, like 20 years. Now for the last five or six years I've had problems with my lower back and both hips. I know that my lower back has got issues of its own but my hips I have some  arthritis in but they're not bad like needing a replacement or anything. My physical therapist said that I have bursitis in my hips. She is the only one that has diagnosed that in all these years. But I think she's right x-rays don't show a problem -  none of my tests show problems but my fibromyalgia doctor my rheumatologist has told me that all these pains I have can be from the fibromyalgia, including the bursitis.

I suffered from really bad bursitis about eight years ago, my consultant found it difficult to find a diagnosis due to how young I was. I underwent surgery on my right hip, he fitted me with a z plasty to help with the bursitis. It seemed to help for a while but then the pain seemed to over take my whole body. In 2013 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
Since then I have been told that the bursitis has returned into both hips!!! My new consultant has given me in steps to help lift my collapsed arches. I have applied ice as suggested but nothing seems to help.
Have other people suffered this?
Does anyone know if fibromyalgia cause bursitis?
Thanks for listening.

I have both as well...bursitis came first. I walk well on a treadmill but not unsupported.  For a general walk I use a cane??? I haven't done any research connecting the two, but now that you mention it  I'mall over it. Thanks!!!
Btw started when I was 49 I am now 52
Used to play volleyball until this happened.  :-(
But still hit the treadmill :-)

I don't know, but I definitely have both problems.  I understand the difficulty.  Thankfully, my apartment building is required to have elevators.
