Burning Foot Pain.....otherwise healthy w/no chronic diseases

After walking for perhaps 20-30 minutes in anything other than athletic footwear, I experience burning throbbing foot pain.  Also after standing for prolonged periods of time I will experience burning, swelling, throbbing of my feet mainly around my toes, bunion area.

Yes, I have bunions but am afraid to have surgery in fear of making the problem worse rather than helping.

Your thoughts?

Can you say that your surgical procedure for bunions is relatively painless and will not cause me to be laid up and non-wt bearing for many weeks?
I am a very busy professional and I fly all over the country on business.  I may be able to avoid flying for 1-2 wks but that would be my limit for working from home after the surgery.
I have read about a podiatrist in Orange County, CA who does the surgery on a Tues and you can fly home on Friday.

If I can avoid flying to CA for the bunion surgery I would love to have it done locally.

Your thoughts?  Your outcomes/results?

Thanks very much,
Francesca

I'm in Boston too.....hmm, perhaps I should make an appointment if you feel like I won't be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks.

Thank you very much.  I wondered if it was the bunion causing the nerves to be irritated.  I have found a surgeon with years of experience and thousands of satisfied patients providing testimony.  Thus, I will have the surgery.
Interestingly, my bunions are not too obvious nor are my feet deformed like some people however, the pain is nasty and debilitating and progressive.

Thank you very much!!!  This helps tremendously to know that bunions cause pressure and nerve irritation causes the burning and throbbing.  I never knew and I'm a nurse!!!

the burning and throbbing occurs when the bunion, tissue, and nerves are irritated from shoe wear.
try to wear shoes that are wide in the toe box to prevent pressure on the bunion.  putting a shoe stretcher to widen the shoe can help reduce pressure on the bunion.  also, wearing an orthotic can help take pressure off the bunion.
lastly, if the pain continues, consider having bunion surgery.  surgery only makes it worse if you don't follow your physician's orders.
