Acid Reflux, Barrett's Oesophagus and LPR

Hi,

I am 28 years old and got diagnosed three years ago with Acid Reflux, Hiatus Hernia, and Barrett's Oesophagus. I was clear of the H.pylori infection. I have been using PPI medication Omeprazole until early this year where I got switched to Lansoprazole which I also got diagnosed with silent reflux (LPR) due to loosing my voice. I also take Gaviscon Advanced 3-4 times a day for the acid and heartburn.

My lifestyle changed due to these diagnoses I eat more healthily and exercise more to try and keep the weight healthy.

I am to have my three year check up due to the Barrett's of the Oesophagus. Beginning of the month I started being sick (throwing up part food part acid (I think)) my stomach pain has increased so I am on Codine for it. The Doctor have upped my dose of Lansoprazole and I am also on Ranitidine as well. Apart from the pain and being sick it hurts to eat food and after I have eaten also I am loosing my appetite too. My diet hasn't changed and not changed anything else. However, the constant pain, being sick, feeling sick, loosing my voice and my appetite is getting me concerned. I am not pregnant before anyone asks. The doctor keeps changing my anti sickness tablet but none are working, and to be honest my PPI medication should handle all the above. They did a blood test which have come back normal.

I am wondering does anyone else have/had this/these issues? Does anyone know what it could be?

Please ask your Doctor about the Gastric emptying test and read up on Gastro paresis and I'm sure you'll find a lot of your symptoms match.

Please keep me updated and all the best,
Cornel

Hi,

Thank you for your help- I will have a look into that.

I was told by my consultant that I do not have Barrett's Esophagus (even though I was told three years ago) Anyways, they have re-done an endoscopy as the weight loss is a concern among everything else.
The consultant took two biopsies and testing it for Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
I have previously been told that I don't have IBS or suffering from it.
So I await two weeks for the result of the biopsies I hope it gets to the bottom of this!

Hi there,

My symptoms:  acid reflux (even though I had a Nissen Fundoplication in 2012 due to having long segment Barrets Esophagus and severe reflux) and I feel full most of the times, no appetite and once I do eat I feel uncomfortable and nauseas.  I eat less than my 10 year old daughter!  I then burp continuously and taste food that I had 4 hours ago!  I have a lump in my throat and just feel terrible.  Stomach pains:  typical of IBS maybe.

Does that sound a lot like your symptoms?

From my personal experience:  I went for a Gastric emptying test, last week.  It came back abnormal.  2 hours later I still had 44% of my food in my stomach and 33% water!  The diagnosis:  Gastro paresis.

My advice to you is to ask your Doctor about the test and see if he thinks you can benefit from it.  Google:  Gastric paresis.

I hope that the info helped you somehow.  Please let me know if you have any more questions.

All the best,
