Swelling of feet/toes/fingers along with heartburn

I am unsure where to post this question...so will start with one of the symptoms.

My fiance' has been experiencing problems with painful swelling of feet, toes and fingers. Pads of feet and hands become really sore (as if he has been pounding on a hard surface for hours).  They swell so much that he is hardly able to walk.  Along with this he has been having severe heartburn, which limits his eating and keeps him up at night.

All these symptoms last between 2-3 days and then disappears for a while.  Then magically returns.

He is 37 years old.  Is on high blood pressure medication (which they switched medications thinking that the diurectic in his previous prescription was causing the problems).  He has also been told to take over the counter allergy medication (Claritin) daily along with maximum strength Pepcid AC daily.

Nothing makes it go away and they cannot tell him what is wrong.

He did not have any of these symptoms prior to medications.  It wasn't until about 1 year after taking high blood pressure medication that this began.  They then switched the high blood pressure med to one that did not have a diurectic in it.  Thinking this would help.

The swelling of the feet (which goes up his calf) began first, then the heartburn like symptoms appeared shortly thereafter.

Hi,
One of the causes for painful swelling of legs is deep vein thrombosis.
Ultrasound scan and a few blood tests are helpful in diagnosing this condition.

For  heartburn he can continue taking Pepcid AC.

Did he have these symptoms before he started taking all of these medications?
