*I am currently on Nexium and I have been diagnosed with acid reflux disease.
Yesterday at 2 P.M. I drank probably 3 ounces of water with warm honey and apple cider vinegar added. Shortly after, my throat started to feel strange and I felt as if my throat was gradually starting to close. I immediately took Zyrtec-D when the symptoms started, about 5 minutes after the drink. About four hours later the feeling had not gone away, and was gradually progressing. I went to a doctor nearby and he examined my throat. He did say that my tonsils were swollen and noticed the white gunk I had on my left tonsil, but he did not see anything wrong with my throat. I told him I have abnormally large tonsils and they usually look swollen normally because of the size. He recommended I take a Benadryl in case the reaction was allergic, because the Zyrtec-D was not working. At around 7, I went to another family doctor (after having taken half a Benadryl tablet and a liquid dose because I could not swallow the full Benadryl). He speculated that it may be acid reflux related and said I should take tums or Mylanta. I took 2 tums and was not feeling any better. Immediately after the visit I felt my throat getting worse and we went to the Emergency Room. We put our name on the list and decided to go to the store to buy Mylanta. I took the Mylanta and returned to the Emergency room about 30 minutes later. At around 8 o'clock my symptoms had not receded, but I did not feel like staying at the Emergency Room because of the wait and the symptoms started to become bearable. I went home and went to sleep. Today, I woke up and my symptoms are exactly the way they were yesterday without a change, but the feeling was different. I almost felt as if I had a wad or ball of mucus stuck in my throat causing the difficulty swallowing. I took decongestant and Mylanta early in the morning. I did notice I was congested, but they did not grant me any relief at all. Afterwards, I took a very warm shower and felt the mucus loosening but without any resolve. I returned to the ER this morning and met with a nurse practitioner. She suspected there might have been some sort of swelling in my throat and decided to give me a steroid shot in order to reduce the swelling. They could not give me an endoscopy there because they did not have the necessary materials, and the earliest I can receive one is in two weeks due to the fact the only doctor doing them here is booked 2 weeks in advanced. Now, after taking the shot I passed out for a few minutes, (I had not eaten since this event started) but I gradually began to feel temporary relief. I came home took my Nexium for my acid reflux, and drank an Ensure, 2 glasses of water, along with a small meal from Wendy's. (nuggets, fries, and a burger) It is getting late now and symptoms are returning. I had my shot give to me about 10 hours ago. What else should I try to relieve my symptoms and what could this possibly be? Note: There is no general pain related with this issue. It is simply difficulty swallowing, even with my own saliva. I feel the water slowly go down my throat as if it is struggling to drain because of a blockage. I do not think this is food-blockage related because I had not eaten the day this started.
