I went to the ER with swollen painful stomach and acid taste in my mouth. I was diagnosed with acid reflux and gastritis. I was on Zantac for a while and was taking natural supplements. When all this started, I couldn't eat over 600-900 calories a day. I was 230 pounds (I am a 41 year old female) when it started and after two months I got down to 207 pounds. Two weeks ago, most of my pain went away and I started eating normally again and the acid reflux was controlled through diet. I have not lost any more weight. I was so excited when I went to the GI doctor to tell him how much better I was doing and that I had actually quit taking the Zantac.
He pushed all over my stomach and when he pushed under the breast bone where the esophagus meets the stomach it was tender and sore and he asked me if it hurt and I said yes. He said that since my upper stomach hurts and I lost weight that something more serious might be going on and he wants to be an endoscopy. I am fine with that, but can't gastritis cause a tenderness or pain in the upper stomach? And I told him I lost weight because I couldn't eat enough calories before, yet he still is concerned. Are my symptoms normal for stomach cancer?
