Hi ...I too suffered as you do and i was on Lanzoprazole omaprazole and bottles of Gaciscon ..i can say that these following changes make symptoms so much easier..
1..sleep elevated (2/3 pillows) keeps the acid from running..
2..dont eat within 3 hours before going to bed..

4..Do not fill your belly up ,, eat small and say 3 times a day ..
5...DO NOT bend over as if to pick something up ..
I have since had A Laprascopic Nissen Fundoplication which is like a stomach wrap , New Valve and pipe repair (read up on it ) WEBSURGE is a good place to look and i have not had any pains at all and i am now eating everything in sight...

Hi,
You have both risk factors and symptoms of GERD. The symptoms will persist as long as the risk factors are there. Nighttime symptoms can occur with GERD but need not be in all patients.
You do not have symptoms of tumor. Barium can pick up tumor if any. GERD and its complications can be confirmed with upper GI endoscopy and 24 hours pH monitoring.

To answer your question, yes they can last a year. In fact, they can last a lifetime. And yes, lowing weight would help. More than that even, ceasing smoking will help. (Smoking reduces LES strength, and lack of LES strength is what causes reflux.) In fact, let's take a look at your symptoms:
Burping up acid, Sometimes a little food -- Reflux. Check out LPRD.
Constatnt Heartburn (although when taking Losec this improves) -- Refliux.
Throat Gurgling - Not sure.
Pressure/Lump in the throat - Reflux. Again, LPRD.
Chest Heavyness - I'd bet it's reflux, but get this checked.
Stomach Gurgling - Dyspepsia would do this, as would a bacterial imbalance.
Constant burping and wind - Burping is normal with GERD, but wind... have they checked your gallbladder? (Ultrasound + HIDA/CCK)
Occasional Rectum Gurgling: Could be bacterial imbalance.
Occasional upper stomach pain almost like a burp is stuck: Dyspepsia might explain this.
Obviously, this is not an exhausitve list. If you're concerned, go back to your doc. But do yourself a favor and stop smoking. It screws with your stomach like you wouldn't believe.
Again, everything you mention could be interrelated. I'd ask to see if your gallbladder could be checked, particularly a HIDA/CCK. Additionally, I'd recommend taking a probiotic substance. Aloe vera might also help, and if dyspepsia is the root cause, then Iberogast might be of use.
Check all of this with your doc before proceeding, however.
