GERD, Belching, bloating, appetite, throat but no heartburn!

Hi, I started off a few weeks ago with a large tonsil ulcer. This eventually went, but others came. The Dr's were covinced I just had a viral infection and as such anti-biotics wouldn't clear it up. I was terrified it was soemthing worse as my dad died of throar cancer many years ago. I was referred to ENT specialist who put the camera up my nose and down my throat and said he couldn't see anything and thinks all is fine and tonsils don't have ulcers (although they look weird to me, but to be honest I've never inspcted them before!). I've been referred for a barium swallow x-ray to see if I have a hiatus hernia etc that may be causing acid reflux. I've researced this and it seems possible. I am very anxious, so I understand some of my symptons may be anxiety related, but I do have a bloated feeling stomach and I belch a fair bit, which makes me feel better if that makes sense? I've lost me appetite (well it comes and goes), although this may be anxiety. I can eat ok, it doesn't get stuck, but if I bend over after eating, I can feel the acid I think? Could GERD also cause the tonsil ulcers or a sore ish throat? Oh also my stomach rumbles and makes weird noises even after I've eaten. Sorry this is long, but any advice would help put my mind at ease. The ENT consultant said he was 100% nothing bad was wrong, but untl I know for sure, my mind can't settle. Thank you in advance. John.

HI thanks for the update : )

Yeah, reflux and stress can go hand in hand.....the more stress the more reflux.....

Did u try to elevate the head of ur bed?...stop eating at least 3 to 4 hrs prior to lying down?
these changes can help reduce the reflux at night.
Also, try to avoid dairy products later in the day and typical foods that can trigger the reflux.

There r so many things u can try u do not have to pay for....I drink applecider and it has cut the amount of reflux I have.... experiment to see what foods help u.

Thank you for your post.
Update!
I had a barium swallow and the radiologist kindly took a few extra pictures of my stomach as he knew how anxious I was. He said he could see nothing bad, my throat and esophapgus were fine, but I did have some reflux. I have to go back to see my consultant in a couple of weeks. My local doctor prescribed me a PPI Omeprazole 20mg as I said about my tummy growling all the time and I'm awaiting breath test results for H Pylori. For the last 5 days I've been taking 1mg of Mastic Gum before bed, and without jinxing things, they may have helped. I think anxiety is a big part of my problems. I'm just so tense, stressed and anxious that I have all the usual symptons, feeling uneasy, dry mouth. The last few nights I've woke up with a dry mouth/throat - kind of like you'd get if you had a hangover. But as soon as I sip something, it goes away. I guess great anxiety/stress could cause reflux? It's horrible though having the taste in the mornings. I shall keep fighting it anyway and thinking of buying one of those internet reflux remedy cures?? Worth a go maybe?

Hi ...it sounds like u need a GI dr and the barium swallow should show what is going on...sounds like reflux and a hiatal hernia as that is what I have.

The bloating could be due to if u do not go to the bathroom on a regular basis or the amount that u should.....try a diet for gerd...see a list in the Health Pages here on MedHelp.

Try to relax as stress can make ur reflux worse...and the reflux can cause damage and left untreated can cause more issues....and ur spot can be damage...with the right meds can be healed...so relax and see what the GI dr says after ur test.
Post an update : )

Godspeed
