GERD and White Tongue

I have had GERD for years...to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath with a mouthful of acid.  I was on Aciphex first, then Protonix and now Nexium.

My problem is that the back of my tongue is all white and bumpy (looks a bit like thrush).  I was told that this is from the acid that has come up over the years.  Is that likely?  If so, is there anything I can do to remove it (treatment, over-the-counter remedy, medication, etc.)?

Thanks for the help!

It is not a lesion..there is no redness underneath, no bleeding, etc.  It is just white like a leyer of film on the back of my tongue.  I try brushing it but it does not come off (nor does it get irritated or cause any pain).

Any thoughts?

Hi,
Without seeing the lesion on the tongue I may not be able to tell you any remedy.
