GOT THE PILL CAM...fast, easy, and got results!

Hi, I thought I would share my ESO pillcam experience....I had it done this morning at UCLA and it was SOOOO EASY and cool! I went in, got a few sticky pads on my chest and stomach, they handed me a flashing pill, gave me a glass of water, told me to lie down and take it. Well I couldnt swallow while lying down so I leaned up, a little too much apparently, swallowed the pill, laid back down and watched the screen....it went straight to my stomach. They were worried they wouldnt get enough images, if any. I waited the 20 minutes until the battery died and then the dr left me for 10 minutes. He came back and took me into his office and showed me my capsule video and he froze 28 still photos to show me my problem areas. This pill, which should have stayed in my esophagus for 5-6 minutes, was in there for 3 seconds and pulled AMAZING pics. It diagnosed Gerd, I had esophagitis, two ulcers stage 2 (out of 5) so mild, and it showed I have a hiatal hernia. It also showed that I still had alot of food in my stomach, after fasting, so he thinks I may have gastroparesis..... which we will test next month with the "smart pill" (capsule endoscopy again, but tests ph and gastric emptying and can read for up to 5 days in the body)
I was so relieved by this test...no barretts!!! Yeah!!! I was told I need to take my prevacid twice a day to help protect my esophagus.
i highly recommend this procedure to anyone who is afraid of the scope. The pictures are beautiful, clear and precise. You have no idea the capsule is in you. Its not hard to swallow, its very slippery and glides right down.
It was a great experience, and best, Im back at work! Not at home groggy, with a sore throat recovering from the sedation~
Yeah modern science!!!

no there is no sedation with the pill cam, you just swallow it.  I just saw my regular gastro and he isnt a fan of it because you cant biopsy and he wants me to get a regular EGD...Im hesitant,,,it seems like such big business....I had the results with me from the pillcam, and I have nothing too serious, just grade 2 erosions in esophagus. So Im confused. But I hightly recommend the pill cam for convenience, ease and 100% NON-INVASIVE. It was a piece of cake, like taking a large vitamin!
The pill cam is only for the esophageal study or the small bowel study, not a colonoscopy yet!  Did you want it for a colonoscopy? Your post mentions that.

Dr called me and isnt sure whats going on.  After the watery diarrhea I started severe nausea all day and late day got bad aches in my entire back and hips....so It could be a flu....I couldnt sleep last night because the nausea was so bad, and this morning it is just unrelenting.  So were gonna wait it out and assume its a flu for now.  when Im feeling better I may try the double dose again...well see.

U r right...call ur dr. Ne time u have a side effect from a med u should ask ur dr or the pharmacist about it.

Since u also have bowel issues involved with ur condition, if I understood what u said the out come of the testing was....that could be the reason more so than the meds, but better safe than sorry.

Our body's can change at netime what will be effective or affect us......

Please let us know what the dr/pharmacist say.

Hi, I took the double dose of prevacid and I was fine last night, but woke up this am with bad watery diarrhea and some nausea.  I know Prevacid can cause diarrhea, but this is a bad case of it.  Think it could be related?  Im definitly calling my dr today to set up an appt to discuss,,,,thinking I should stop the double dose until I talk with him.
I was on prevacid for years, my body should be used to it!

Hi...well it depends on the dr and how long u will be taking that amount.
I always check with my pharmacist about doasge and interactions of meds.

The MG is rx per the severity of symptoms and sometimes the  size of the patient.

Some r rx'd 40 mg twice a day....again it should be a short lived dosage until the contion is under control, and then it should be lessened.

Is it considered safe to take prevacid 30 mg twice per day?  Safe is not the right word..I guess I should say, is it common...
